Nobody in the 10th is going to beat Mason.

As I said earlier, I only saw the second half. If Darius was going through the motions, I guess he could have had a 40/20 game. Lots of folks seem to confuse "going through the motions" with "playing on a such a high level that it seems almost effortless".

 

The referees missed one obvious foul on Mason County at the end of the third quarter; that was the only bad miss that I saw. A few others could have gone the other way; that's to be expected. What I did see was a Campbell County team that for some reason had a hard time staying upright.

 

To answer the question regarding the playing time for the three freshmen, Pawsat got the most minutes; Setty got quite a few and did hit a 3, but had a tough time on defense against Campbell's starters. Gilbert saw about 3 minutes of action in the 4th quarter, had 2 FTs (Mason still not hitting a real high percentage of FTs as a team) and a bucket. He looks like the PG of the future for the Royals.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who saw this! It seemed like every play some kid just deliberately fell down. Of course, their fans were yelling "Foul!" but these kids were either just falling over their own feet, or falling over another teammate. I think some of it was anticipated contact or just trying to "sell" the foul, which didn't work too well, and Campbell Co. didn't like that.

 

But as for Darius. He is amazing. Anyone that says he was just going through the motions tonight is crazy. Yes, he could have had 50 points if he wanted, but he gets others involved WHILE getting his 20-30 points, which is part of what makes him special. Maybe his unselfishness makes him look like he is going through the motions? I don't know, but I didn't see that tonight. I thought he played a great game. He does make it look effortless!:thumb:

Doubt Coach Code will be thrilled with the Royals hanging 80 on them, but Mason is just in another league than the rest of the 10th this year!! Sounds like another "cruise control victory" for the Royals!!

I only got to see the second half tonight. Darius had a one-handed windmill throwdown that was as impressive a dunk from a high-schooler that I've seen in a long long time. Not that dunks are the be-all end-all of basketball, but this one was a "10".

 

Congratulations to the Royals; this one wasn't quite as close as the final score but the Royals called off the dogs fairly early. On to Memorial Coliseum on Friday!

 

I second that. I thought the "alley" from Trevor was thrown too high, too far behind Darius, but his wingspan is ridiculous. He definitely brought down the "oop" with some extreme force.

 

Other than that, I want to compliment Campbell. I don't know any way to put it except that they "played with" Mason. Not to say it translated to the scoreboard, but they kept up their gameplan -- full-court pressure on defense, high-speed offense -- until the very end.

 

And I may get some flack for saying this, but for my money, there's not a better conditioned team I've seen this year than Campbell. There's never one player on Coach Code's team that is tugging on their shorts, even in the final minutes of the game. Like I said, that may not translate to the scoreboard against Mason, but they never stopped pushing.

Not to mention running the floor real hard every play. Now that is playing for real.

I'm a Camel fan all the way, but it was a thrill to see Darius and his boys play Tuesday night. Players like him don't come along very often in our neck of the woods. It's worth the trip to see him play. The best four dollars I've spent in a long time. Our boys were out-matched but it should help us Friday when Scott comes to the Desert.

It is a district seed game. Camels win they will have the top seed and play the winner of Calvary-Silver Grove. Scott would play Brossart in the other bracket.
