TURBOENNIS Posted January 12, 2008 Posted January 12, 2008 The game was some what close (5-10 pt spread). Dawgs got out to a fast start and really never looked back. Blew it wide open in the forth.
*Jeanie* Posted January 12, 2008 Posted January 12, 2008 Figured they would win by about this much. Any stats?
TURBOENNIS Posted January 12, 2008 Author Posted January 12, 2008 How'd Arrez play? He wasn't in double figure's, I think he had 7 or 9. He had 2 monster dunks. The best defender I have seen held Sorell to minimal points.

Henderson is one of the top defenders in the state. However, he alone did not hold Sorrell to mimium points. The whole Bulldog team did. Henderson shadowed Sorrell and as soon as he received the ball Holmes swarmed all over him. As Ryan Ernst mentioned in his blog, Sorrell will be seeing Dawgs in his sleep! Great defensive effort by Holmes. This Bulldog team, at least last night, is scary good. They play great defense, they're patient and deliberate on offense, and seem to be a disiplined group. I don't ever recall a Holmes team having all three of these qualities. On the other hand, this is high school basketball. On another night, under different circumstances, things could be different. It's just one game in a long season.
kyfootballfan32 Posted January 12, 2008 Posted January 12, 2008 Best Team defense I've ever seen played in the 9th region, they were everywhere. If they play D like that nobody in the region can touch them.
Hamilton Joe Posted January 12, 2008 Posted January 12, 2008 Holmes is Clearly the best team in the 9th Region right now with Boone Cty and Highlands IMO as the next 2 teams as it appears CCH is going thru a rough stretch and has a player or 2 banged up.
oral32 Posted January 12, 2008 Posted January 12, 2008 If there is one thing you should know about Coach Henley is that he came from a team in high school that defense was everything with his former Coach Craynor Sloane. Henley learned early on that even if your shot is not falling and your struggling on offense your defense can win games because it usually is your more consistent thing that, if maximum effort is given, won't take a night off. With that being said it appears that at this point in the season he has a group of young men that has bought into that idea and are more than willing to play DEFENSE and are not a selfish bunch as seen by the scoring distribution being as equal as it is. Teams like that can go a long way in the post season because one person does not have to score every night for them to win (case and point look at last night with HC - Sorrell & Giwa together did not even score Giwa's season average). Holmes has three key games left to see how really special they can be before post season, Cov. Cath., Highlands, & Boone Co.. If one of these three does not get it together Holmes could run the table in the regular season in the Ninth.

You should have seen the late '80's/early 90's Dogs defense. To simulate their press we used 10 guys on defense during practice.
Bballfan22 Posted January 12, 2008 Posted January 12, 2008 Henderson did an excellent job defending sorrell, but the refs are the ones that held sorrell from getting his points. Sorrell has been averaging 12 freethrows a game and did not attempt one last night and Holy Cross does not reach the bonus in the 1st half and gets it in the 2nd half but not until a minute left in the game.

It goes to show that Henderson can play at the D1 level. Isn't he only 5'11 and Sorrell 6'4? What I'm trying to say is that even though he is only 5'11 or so he can defend bigger players. Henderson is a beast on the floor and he deos not get caught up in having to score "his points" he is a true dream for a Coach to have.

The refs hit Holmes with about 4 or 5 touch fouls that I wouldn't have called in a girls game. Bottom line is they have a great defense, they swarm everybody! Not just Sorrell. I can even say if they played at any other bigger gym, blowout was probable.
