Boone County 64 Covington Catholic 48

Boone didn't have McFarland in that game and were still up at half time, losing in the last minute with 4 sophomores on the floor. Daviess was in the double bonus almost the whole fourth quarter and hit their free throws.

Boone's sophomores are used to seeing physical and quick defense. The guards are quick and are difficult to press. They have had a lot of experience facing intense pressure from some of the top AAU teams in nation over the last 4-5 years. They don't get rattled very easily.

In addition, the sophomores have played several years in a row against the Holmes sophs in AAU and school ball and have been very competitive with them.

I think it will be a good game. I think Holmes would have a rebounding edge, and Boone will have a shooting advantage. Both teams play great defense and both will be hard to press.

I have seen Boone play two times, and most recently against Scott.

Boone is not a great defensive team but are a nice offensive team. They press you to get tempo and to make you take quick shots...a quick shot that is taken and missed can really be seen as a turnover. Once you break pressure and attack when you can you will be ok. Boone is very very average in the half court on defense...they feed their offense off of quick shots.

Offensively, they are fairly solid...

Should be fun to watch.

I think a lot of people seem to forget how tough this week has been for a bunch of High School kids. First you see your heart and soul of your team break his arm, and then you learn that someone you know, someone who is your age, someone who you have known since you were in grade school and to top it off your freshmen basketball coach daughter, gets killed in a automobile accident. Two major losses for CovCath in the space of a week and I am not at all talking about Basketball. Kids especially being the age they are just don't think about a friend dieing, yes Grandma, or Grandpa, but never someone your age, or someone you know so very well. Yes CovCath hasn't looked good this week, but then again the lessons about life they have learn this week are much more important than winning or losing some basketball games.

Very good post. That would be very hard to deal with for teenagers. I have seen CovCath play this year and I'm really impressed if those boys keep working hard they can have an outstanding year and I wouldn't want to meet them come tournament time.

I won't disagree entirely with that. However, their half-court zone defense was effective enough against Covington Catholic. The guards defend well and cause turnovers on the perimeter with pressure defense and quick hands. 3 of Boone's players are among the top 5 in steals in NKY.

I think Boone needs to have a little more variety in their presses throughout a game. You won't find many teams better in the 9th region offensively. They have any weapons inside and out and excellent shooters, decent size, and good quickness, and are deep and can go to the bench.

Enquirer said 1st win for Boone in 14 games against CCH. Big win for that program.

Would that be since 2003?

Would that be since 2003?

I would imagine not ....they had wrong info then. They said 10 years.

It very possibly could have been 10 years. CCH actually beat Boone in '03, also. Thank you TheOldGuy for the correction. :D
