Elliott gambles way to much on defense,that is why disciplined teams will eat their press alive and shoot layups(COVCATH). The Knipp kid in the middle is a liability on defense, he just stands behind his man on the block, never tries to front. The good teams will exploit this weakness on Elliott. Fleming Co. played well for 25-26 minutes. The Panthers shot 54% from the field as oppossed to 48% for Elliott. The Panthers also outrebounded Elliott 23-19. The end result was to many turnovers by the Panthers. I think they had 35 for the game as oppossed to 19 for Elliott. Elliott has 3 solid players in the Faulkner twins and Ferguson. Ferguson might be the best jump shooter in the state, but make him put it on the floor to beat you. Do not see anyone beating Elliott in the 16th. I cant wait to see them and Mason play, it should be a dandy.

 

Finally someone who knows why CovCath beat us, without talking about all that "Lockdown Defense" non sense. And your right, IMO those three could more than likely walk into any high school (Mason included) and start.

Don't leave out C. Knipp. He had a GREAT game!!! I haven't seen any stats but it sure seemed as though he was right in there with shots, steals and defensive moves.

Chris is easily the most underrated player in this region. He never stops on defense. And if they back off of him he can knock it down. Doesn't shoot enough, IMO

C. Knipp is truely a team player. He's there with the assists both offensively and defensively. He puts them up when he has a shot and passes it off to make the score. :ylsuper:

Fleming would have been right in this ball game if they didnt have so many turnovers...They shot well, and did good on the glass but elliots defence seemed to be to much for the young panthers

IMO he stands around to much watching the big three do their thing. He needs to move around when the Faulkners are penetating the gaps and spotting up on the arc looking for the kick out and 3. Defensively, IMO he is average, might be because of the minutes logged during the course of the game. Elliott needs to develop their bench if they are going to press for 32 minutes. The boys will have no legs in March when it counts. Only solid contributor off the bench is Maynard, and I think he should start.

What's the point of spotting up on the wing if the ball is not going to get passed.

That is a whole different problem, just stating what I thought he needed to do to improve his contributitions to the TEAM! Wish the boys from EC the best.

No, 21 wasn't under the weather. He never shows any emotion........Or effort for that matter. If it seemed as though he spent the whole game looking at his shoes, its because usually he does. Not picking on the kid, its just the rest of the team is on a whole other level intensity wise.

 

What makes you such the expert on Timmy Knipp? Do you not like him or something? I guess you know for sure that he wasn't feeling well.

There are alot of cheap shots on the kids from Elliott tonight.

Good grief, T. Knipp's a growing freshman. He will be fine and probably will end his career as one of the best to come from our area. let him develop. Chris Knipp's improvement from last year has been a major key to this team. He has become an excellent defender and can score when he takes it to the basket.

Fleming was right there most of the game. Fleming eventually fell to the full court pressure. I like the Ferguson kid, he reminds of Chris Lofton the way he conducts himself on the floor. Ferguson is a leader, which is what Fleming lacks right now.

 

I agree with your assesment of the Ferguson kid he is not just a scorer as some portray him, but he has a lot of steals, and his defense is awesome, also late in the Fleming game he had several offensive rebound and put backs for the Lions which helped them pull away from Fleming County. He seems to have a knack for getting open and seems to get overlooked sometimes when he is wide open, however the team seems to be clicking on all 8 cylinders.
