*Williamstown @ Walton Verona Predictions*

Walton should win by 20+. They need a big win to keep rolling.

Madman, you seem to follow Walton tightly, like myself. I heard someone left the team, or something like that. Not sure who, just rumor that traveled to me. Do you know anything? And will this hurt their chance against Williamstown and All A?

You heard correctly. It was one of the seniors who didn't get alot of playing time. I'd rather not say who it is since she only quit today. Probably won't have a major impact on the team.

Wow. I hope this doesn't 'rub' off on the other Seniors on this team, and just keep their heads up. I mean, I know some will be down, from the younger-class girls playing more,, I just hope the coach tells the older girls that they could get their time back with effort. We all know that the team can win without younger girls playing, becuase two years ago they did win (And they weren't as talented as they are now). So, I just hope the coach keeps that in their minds!

Anyone know the reason for this to happen? (I know off thread, but just curious!)

I've seen this kind of situation before, if they all embrace their roles and work harder together without allowing class (8th grade or senior) to come between them they can achieive something special. They are a team and should work hard to make each other better. It's a good situation when players have to earn their time. As a team they can only go as far as all the members of the team will take them.

Right! I hope the girls just play together and push each other to make each other better! They really could make something special out of this year!

I will take Walton at home in this one. I don't think the Lady Demons have an answer for Dixon inside and Hargett on the perimeter.

I heard Trimble played well in their loss to Anderson so watch out for the Lady Raiders playing at home in that dark gym in the Class A.

During the Grant County game, the younger-class girls stepped in, and played well, but I did see some disadvantages due to their speed, from their girl they were playing against. Seemed very easy for the Grant guards to hit the wholes on the floor. It worries me for this game and when Walton play's Carroll(Two team's much faster than Grant). If Grant would have finished their easy shots, it would have been a different game. But the young girls add a little "pep" to the team, and that was needed!

I thought the WV younger generation did a great job sparking the team in the Grant game. Finishing for Grant has been a problem & continues to be. Grant had a double digit lead at some points in the game. As Jeanie mentioned, speed from an opponents guard(s) was a problem for WV. Gorby (PG for Grant) was especially difficult for the WV guards to handle, at least until the 4th when she went down (calf problems) & returned late in the game. WV subbed deep into their bench & tried to work on the Grant guards heavily in the 2nd half. Grant played 7. I agree with Jeanie, if Grant had finished their shots & hadn't gotten tired, it would have been a different outcome. But back to the thread! If WV continues on their current path, stick with bringing in the younger gals & keep Hargett in a scoring position (NOT the point), they will continue to improve. I thought some of the adjustments they made in that game to what they had been doing before in the season was much needed! Look out in the next few years! The younger generation is strong. If WV sticks to their recent game plan, WV with the win over Wmstown. WV fans, keep positive! You have a lot to look forward to over the rest of the season & in the next few years.

To answer your question: yes, she still falls down all the time while on offense and defense. It does leave her and her teammates at a disadvantage. She needs to play under more control and stay on her feet. She does hustle and play hard.

We used to call it a Volleyball roll in MS...

It was always entertaining..

It doesn't matter what grade the girls are in - the best players should play. This isn't a popularity contest. I say Walton by 12.

I think also better communication from the coaches on how a player would/could be used in games or game situations as well as players knowing how they can contribute to the team is vital. So when those situations come up, the player can contribute to the team even if the player is not an all star. Sometimes also coaches are afraid to cut players at the try outs and then what often happens is the player doesn't get any or much playing time and they become unhappy and believe that why was I good enough to make the team but not good enough to get some playing time. So I believe the blame can be put on both the coaching staff and the player. I'm not much on using younger team mates to stir up the older team mates. I don't think this benefits the team, it could cause a dividing line in the long run. We're not talking college or professional ball here. It's high school ball where you're suppose to have fun, learn, and do your best to your ability, and enjoy the competition.

I'll pick Walton by 12.

I understand what you are saying about younger team mates because it could cause a rift in the team, but I have seen starters that felt entitled and stopped working hard. Sometimes a dose of a young player working hard and playing you hard in practice can really light a fire.

Then if they start taking a little playing time the older player may step up their game. On the flip side some older players may not get any time because of the talent coming up. That is when a decision needs to be made on whether to play through the season or quit.

Yeah. I pretty much understand that basketball isn't a popularity contest! But this situation could get sticky. One Senior just quit, maybe a few more will? I sure hope not, I'm just saying that communication is KEY for this team right now. The coach needs to tell those girls their 'roll' in the games instead of just taking their playing time from them. She needs to talk and make sure the older girls understand where the fit in the program instead of them feeling like the left out.

I also agree with Footloose (with his/her statement above). It's High School basketball. I know us as viewers/parents or whatever, want to win, and winning is great, but sometimes we forget about how that Senior feels when she never got into a game, or when you see a great team taken over by a different coach, and watch players quit and not want to play for her. These girls are missing one BIG thing, and that is to have FUN. The girls (Seniors/Coach) need to see that they have 2 more months of basketball, that's it, these girls coming up, have 4/5 years left. I'm not saying I don't want them (younger-class girls) to play because they do help out a lot! Don't get me wrong, but you need to see the whole picture, the older girls can win. We all know that, I guess what I am trying to say is don't give up seniors. You all are a great group of girls; use this to motivate you to get your playing time back!

Anyone agree?? Or is Weakside right? Just seeing others views.

I think the communicating has allready been done. If your not going to play hard your not going to play. A individual player is entitled to nothing. What's best for the team is what has to be done. And if a player doesn't get that then they are not a team player in the first place. What's needs to happen is everybody get on-board and play as hard as possible in the minutes they get . That will make the team deeper and a much tougher out in any game. If playing a mix of girls works best for the team to win then everybody benefits in the long run. In this situation if a player wants more time (in order to contribute to the TEAM) they have to state their case on the floor.

I agree. I hope this will spark the other girls into keeping the roll going. Seniors should go out strong.
