Not "dishing" Elliot, just said his stats are unavailable, and when I saw him play h went 1 for 8. Not a "dish" just a fact. And I know nothing about Ball State except they are and Muncie IN, and according to a couple customers I have up there, not a big athletic school. Apparently, when they scouted Elliott, he did not go 1 for 8. As forr the Ryle kids, I know several have D1 interest, some in 2 sports.

 

 

Do you know anything about athletics and recruiting? I doubt if playing against the all mighty Ryle and going 1-8 would have caused Ball State or any other school looking at Elliott to be discouraged. He is one of the best athletes in NKY. All great players have bad games and the college/pro scouts realize that! I think they will know athletic talent will they see it.

Walt is still the coach of the KY Colonels, correct?

 

How familiar are you with the KY Colonels program? If you are familiar at all, then you'd know that Walt is much less concerned with Wins and losses during summer ball than he is getting his players exposure & opportunities to play on the next level. That is what summer ball is all about - earning an opportunity to continue your education and play the game on the next level.

 

Until the other programs around NKY realize this then they'll continue to be a step behind Walt's Colonels.

 

Being a member of the Ky Kings program, I am very offended, as I am sure are some others with the bashing of the Kings and other programs in comparisons with the Colonels. I assure you that with the Kings program and knowing Rob Sanders and his Bluegrass program, our job is to also look out for the boys futures in every way. The number of kids that have gotten scholarships and help from these 2 programs in particular is far more than anyone would know. While Walt has a tremendous program and god bless him for everything he and Denny do, I am sure he would agree that he does not have the only program that takes care of the kids best interest and he probably would also be upset that the continued bias toward his program would in any way diminish what the rest of us do. While your loyalty to these programs is admirable, I suggest that you might want to stop your petty arguing and think before you speak. Sorry to vent, but when you are on the outside looking in, it is easy to put down something you don't know every thing about.

Trust me, the Kings were no where near as good as some of the teams that the Colonels played this summer in Nashville, Memphis, Louisville, or even Cincinnati and all three young men did themselves proud all summer long.

There is no doubt that the Colonels have a first-rate program and Walt is a tremendous individual that really helps out his kids. But it would be pretty hard to disagree that the Kings also have a very, very nice program and to say they are "no where near" the Colonels is a bit disingenuous, IMO.

As I sit and read all of these comments, I can’t help to think that most of us have lost our focus as to what all of these programs should be about at the end of the day. Yes some programs have the tendency to attract a better caliber of player than the others, but the bottom line is that all of the programs promote the game of baseball well, and all have many fine young men playing the game we love. I cannot speak much about the other programs but I am familiar with the Bluegrass Baseball Club. From last years Bluegrass Chiefs Roster, I can think of 10 young men but I believe there were 14 total that are going on to get their college education while having the privilege of playing college baseball, I know coach Sanders is proud of the number of former players that he has helped go to college, and getting the opportunity to play baseball is a bonus. If I am not mistaken, the Bluegrass Chiefs routinely send 10 – 15 of their players on to college each year.

 

Here are the 10 I know, Not sure about spellings and could not tell you high schools. These players from the 2007 Bluegrass Chiefs are in college and getting to play baseball.

No, the Kings are indeed a very good team, but not at the level as some of the teams that both the Colonels and the Kings played last summer. Please you can't tell me that the Kings are as good as the Midland, Ny, Cobb or some other teams across the USA that the Colonels/Kings played this summer and that was my point (maybe if the two teams merged and made one super team they would be as good, but we in NKy seem to not want to have one super team). I will at least admit that there are some very good teams out there better than CovCath or the Ky Colonels but will DD? DD is only going on what he saw when the Colonels played his Kings and I am going on what I saw from the Colonels all summer long, big difference!

 

BTW it was DD saying that Elliott wasn't the player that I and others say he is because he went 1-8 against Ryle, and to the best of my knowledge still hasn't answered my question of how many of the current seniors of Ryle have signed with a D1 school, not wish to, hope to, are willing too, but have signed! Elliott is a very special baseball player, but DD doesn't seem to understand that because he went 1-8 against Ryle.

I have no intention of getting myself caught in that discussion or the issue of whether Ryle has any (potential) D1 players (I will tell you straight out that my son plays for Ryle and therefore I am obviously a huge Ryle fan ). I just thought the Colonels vs. Kings comment was a bit too strong originally, but I think you clarified it fairly well there. Nope, neither of them is at the level of the teams to which you compared them, but I do think you're right in saying that there could be a similar level team up here if some teams merged. (For obvious reasons, that'll never happen.) This, in my opinion, is even more impressive than some of these other teams (such as a Midland or Cobb) given that the majority of their players are not from any one area, such as an all-NKY team would be. There is a ton of high quality baseball talent here right in NKY, I think everyone will agree to that!!

I don't have a son, but I have spent a lot of time over the years going to games, and keeping score. I have seen some very good players from our area not get the press that they should state wide and that is the reason why I started posting about the Ky. Colonels on BGP's. It is a real shame that a kid (to name just one) like Rick Parrot, who didn't get an offer from a local college, as the kid lives and breathes baseball and would be an asset to any program. I still can't understand why NKU doesn't seem to want local kids playing for them!

 

Sure I am a homer for CovCath and the Ky. Colonels, but it's because I have been so lucky to be welcomed by the parents, kids and coaches from these two outstanding teams, without having a kid on the team. The Ky Colonels parents (not just the CovCath parents) were so friendly, open, honest and welcoming, it's impossible for me and my daughter to not root for them, and it's going to very hard when the HS season starts and CovCath plays Dixie (Matt), Beechwood (Cody), Scott (Zac), Conner (Clint), Boone (Mark), or even McNick (Paul) to root against any of them. I am really looking forward to seeing these fine people again real soon on the diamond.

What are the obvious reasons besides the Ky Kings, Bluegrass and Colonels all having a 20 man roster? All 3 teams have excellent resumes when looking at the amount of players they've moved on to college. Amerge would only hurt the players???

I think (and I am not speaking for coop) that what cooperstwon and I were speaking about, is that if you merged the best of the best of the best into one team representing NKy, then the outstanding teams from Ny, Midland, East Cobb, etc. etc. etc. wouldn't be so successful in beating such a team as they are now in beating us. Since we have three really good teams, instead of one great team our kids while giving the big boys a run for their money, never seem to beat them. Imagine if you will, want kind of team you would have if you took all the best talent from the local summer leagues teams and put them on one team. Do you think that Cody would have gone over the river to play for Midland, if he had a chance to play for a super NKy team? Now that would be a fun team to watch and for the community to really back!

sure he would have. Do you think that he played over there so he could be seen by U of Ky Coaches?? Heck I know the Ky Kings play 3/4 at Uof Ky. Coaches and scouts find the players they're looking for it's their job! It usually the misinformed parents that cause the problems. There is not enough good arms in Nky to create your "super nky team".
