January 18, 200818 yr So if a non-resident student is academically qualified, there is available space and he pays tuition he can attend Highlands or Beechwood. Do other "public" schools have this option or is it unique to "independent" public schools? I think most public schools throughout the state have these agreements. I know that if you live in Woodford Co and want your child to attend Dunbar, all you need is for PLD to have the available space and pay the tuition. Scott Co and Fayette have the same agreement as does Bourbon Co, and so on and the magic is that the student's family doesn't even have to relocate. To suggest that this doesn't facilitate recruiting activities would be naive (and the fact that this is allowed via Bylaw 10-recruiting, etc., asks how seriously KHSAA wants to outlaw recruiting problems).

You are absolutely right. I understand Trinity's players were lifting weights the Monday after the State Final. They push each other. That makes a difference. I'm confident Beechwood and Highlands are back at it preparing for next season. I understand a district foe of Trinity's asks their kids to lift weights one month prior to practice.
January 18, 200818 yr A few answers and comments here: All the schools in NKY do not accept tuition students. Boone Co schools do not accept out of district students. You must live in that particular school district. Kenton Co has Open Enrollment. So, if you live in Kenton Co you can send your kid where you want, parents just have to provide their own transportation. In regards to Beechwood, everything sd is correct. If they have openings in that particular grade they will accept tuition. They also take an admissions test that they must pass and it don't matter who/what/how big they are. A few yrs back, there was a set of twins who were fantastic athletes but did not get in due to not passing the test. So, throw those rumors out the door if they are good enough they will get in, not so. The SK athlete in question is enrolled at Beechwood and started on MON. SK tried to get him in a V game as someone eluded to but the parents refused to let him play!

It's hard to build a program when you lose players such as this. Someone called this when the season was going on that he would jump ship. All we heard from people very close to the situation that there would be noway he would transfer to another school.

I hear that Highlands won state on Friday, were in the weight room Saturday morning.

If a school is recruiting, people need to gather the facts and take it to the KHSAA; otherwise people need to quit claiming it is going on then complain about it!!!

So County X's public schools can have players from County Y? Does Wilson Sears know this?
February 2, 200818 yr If someone plays V, that doesn't mean that they can't play somewere else with out moving. I know a girl who played V, did not move and is playing without sitting out a year. She went from a private school to a city school in NKY. And it was not because of money.
February 2, 200818 yr So County X's public schools can have players from County Y? Does Wilson Sears know this? According to one poster here not only is Sears aware of it, his district DEPENDS on the ability to draw students from Pulaski County Schools. The more I hear the less I believe that his intentions have anything to do with athletics, rather a desire to make private schools less attractive to potential students.
