I wonder how close Boone and Highlands were to the top 20.

Has to be close. 11-2 Boone Co. beat #16 Corbin and beat #9 Adair Co. by almost 20 over Christmas break.

Holmes should be ranked much higher than they are, only loss was to a strong Male ball club! They handled a Davies Co. team which beat Boone relatively easy on friday at the Lloyd tourney!

Who has University Heights beaten to be ranked #7, especially with three losses, two to unranked opponents?

I think Mason County is clearly the best team in the state. They lost to Lexington Catholic on Catholic's home floor in overtime not long after getting back from a trip to Hawaii and playing a grueling schedule over the last couple weeks. As for the rest of the poll, I dont see how Corbin and Hazard can be ranked ahead of June Buchanan, and I also think that Cumberland High should be in the top 25 somewhere. They haven't played a real difficult schedule as of yet, but they have games coming up against tp 25 teams and will have a chance to show what they have in the All A Classic coming up later this month

 

Cumberland in the top 25 based on what?? Agree on June Buchanan behind Cordin (4 losses and other than possibly Madison Central and a narrow loss vs. a good Boone team, who have they beaten) and Hazard (Other than the possible exception of a decent Montgomery County team, have they beaten a quality team)? Two of JB's three losses are to LexCath and Mason, the other to an out-of-state team; and they played in the 5/3rd.

I will ask this question knowing that I will get bombarded, but realistically, who has Elliott County beaten to deserve their ranking at #11?

 

Yes I am a fan of this team. They have scored big numbers, but against what competition.

 

Cov Cath beat them by 14. The next best opponent they have played is probably Christian Co who has a losing record.

 

I do expect to see them back at Rupp Arena and will be cheering for them, but a trip to Rupp does not necessarily mean that a team is among the 16 best in the state.

They beat Clarksville, Tennessee, who is 12-4 this year after going 33-3 last year and finishing as Class 3A state runner-up in Tennessee.

 

They beat a 9-3 Bowling Green team, they beat Adair County, ranked #9 this week, beat a Madison Central team that was ranked when they played, and lost to #7 Male on a last second shot

They beat Clarksville, Tennessee, who is 12-4 this year after going 33-3 last year and finishing as Class 3A state runner-up in Tennessee.

Plus they have one of the top two players in the state,Sounds like and overall good resume to me.

Shelby Valley beat Male and Male is that far ahead of them? Lexington Catholic beat Mason and Mason is still #1? I think the rankings are reflecting what they think the rankings should be instead of how they actually are. I'm pretty sure Male should have beaten Shelby Valley, but why penalize Shelby Valley for actually beating them? Shouldn't head to head competition between two good teams be the first priority when it comes to ranking them? That has always bugged me about the rankings on bluegrasspreps.

Would Shelby Valley have beaten Male on a neutral court? Would Lexington Catholic have beaten Mason County on a neutral court?

 

It's my understanding that is the criteria BGP uses when ranking teams.

 

Somehow, I don't think that Shelby Valley was penalized for beating Male. That and the close loss at Jeffersontown was probably what got them in the top 20. I don't know that anything else on their resume shows that they're worthy of a ranking.

You may be right on Corbin-Hazard-June Buchanan ... but all three look like legitimate top 20 teams.

You have a good point and I guess if Cumberland can pick up some wins against top 25 competition this month things will change for them in the rankings

Thanks for the info on Clarksville, and I'd concede top 20, but #7? BG doesn't look like any of their wins are over a top 50 team, and both Boone County and Madison Central (unranked) pounded Adair. Are they getting too much credit because of Hopson, who must have really improved (skill-wise and attitude-wise) since last year's All "A" to warrent all the praise he's getting this year??
