AA Tournament???

But to get this thread back on track, Why is there not a Class "AA" Tournament? When there is a Class "A" Tournament? Because the Class "A" schools and supporters took the initiative some 25 years ago to begin something that has evolved into today's version of the tournament. Anyone could create a tournament like the Class "A" for any special group they wanted, it is just an invitational tournament. You could do it for Class "AA", you could do it for private schools (wouldn't that cause problems) you could do it for schools whose mascot was the Wildcats. If you create a tournament, you can invite whoever you would like. It won't be state sanctioned, but it would be a tournament and count towards your maximum number of games.

Thanks for getting us back on track!

So you are saying an All AA could be arranged. So how many games does it count towards the schedule. This is another KY mystery to this former Buckeye. The whole you get 23 games. But if you play in a tournament with 4 games it counts as 2. #@$#@$# HUH????? I think my brain finally got past that fuzzy math. I thought 4 games was 4 games, but anyway.....and if you tri-scrimmage in the preseason, it counts as both of your scrimmages. I just don't get it.....

Off topic, but that is one reason why Baseball went back to one game counting as one game no matter if it is in a tournament or not, and you are not the only person who gets confused by the 1 counts as three but four counts as 2 and of course 1 counts as 1, if it isn't played in a tournament. :D

Now back to your regularly schedule thread....

Who's on first? No seriously, I could understand why baseball went back to basic math.....whatever works!

Most Class "A" Schools count the All "A" Regional as one of their 2 tournaments. If a school advances to the State, they will have to drop regular season games to accomodate the additional games they play in the State Tournament. (The Class "A" State is a seperate tournament fromt he Regional as far as scheduling goes) Most Class "A" Schools have a gentlemen's agreement to drop games with the winner of their region if they need to.

Yes I know! I have attended a game or too when a company that I worked for at one time, was headquartered in Columbus, but it is no where near attended like the Sweet Sixteen is. A little bit of trivia for you, that will make you sound like you were born and raised in Ky. :D

The KHSAA owns the Trademark to the term "Sweet Sixteen" and allows the NCAA to use it free each year!

The All "A" is now a state wide Tourney and is pretty much run like the Sweet Sixteen.

BTW, I personally think it is a huge advantage for the small schools who play in the All "A" tourney (Elliott Co, Paintsville, JBS. UH, CovHoly Cross, NCC, BB etc.) to get ready for the Sweet Sixteen.....

I have played for two State Titles in Ohio In Boys Basketball in the 80's. I have also been back every year to watch the final four of all 4 Divisions in Columbus and the areana is sold out for every game. Kentucky needs Class basketball.

If that's the case, why is that different from the Regionals? In the Regionals, teams do get a cut from the gate whether they play one game or three. That's an extra incentive for the schools to make the Regionals.

Because in the regionals after expenses are covered the remaining money is split among the participating teams. In the state tourney the KHSAA keeps all money after expenses.

Thanks for the info.:thumb:

Most of the AA schools in Kentucky are already competing in the All "A" Classic, but that's a whole different argument.

As it is now, I'm guessing about 40 percent of the schools in the state qualify for the All "A" Classic. There's no need for more tournaments.

How many high schools are there in KY? There will 125 schools eligible for the All A next year.

About 280.

Has the debate on an AA tournament ended?

I find it interesting, I just don't know the facts to keep it going. I had no idea that some AA's were playing in the "All A"......it is interesting.

I still think an All AA would be a good idea.....but if it gets to the point where it is over saturated, then it becomes meaningless......

In basketball their are no A. AA. AAA, whatever. They are all the same in the eyes of the KHSAA. You can attempt to take the class divisions from football and apply them to basketball, but the KHSAA does not. The Class "A" Tournament is for the small schools. Next year it will be for the 125 (I believe) smallest schools in the state.

Here are the 2A football schools:

The All "A" Classic schools are marked. The majority are already in the tournament, and I may have missed a couple.

CLASS 2A

District-2-1- Caldwell County, Heath*, Murray*, Reidland*, Trigg County

District-2-2- Fort Campbell*, Hancock County*, Owensboro Catholic*, Todd County Central*

District-2-3- Glasgow*, Green County*, Metcalfe County*, Monroe County*

District-2-4- Bardstown*, Danville*, Fort Knox*, Washington County

District-2-5- Carroll County*, Christian Academy-Louisville, DeSales, Owen County*

District-2-6- Holy Cross (Covington)*, Lloyd Memorial, Newport*, Newport Central Catholic*

District-2-7- Bath County*, Morgan County, Prestonsburg, Shelby Valley

District-2-8- Corbin, Knott County Central*, Leslie County, Middlesboro

So by it getting up to 125 smallest schools, is that what the All A had in mind, or has it snowballed into something bigger, where now the actuall small schools that it was designed for are gettng beat up on again? (yes run on sentence sorry)

I get there is no "classes" now, that makes sense.....
