December 20, 200718 yr Of Porter's 16 3's, I would venture a guess to say that about 12-13 were uncontested shots where he was left alone & wide open. 8/16 is solid, I agree. But, the fact that he cannot create for himself (nor for others) is what is holding him back. I don't understand why you guys want to limit what we can do offensively? Crawford takes a lot of 3's, but as Meeks returns, those numbers will dwindle. Crawford is, by far, our most effective penetrator. Michael Porter should play about 10-15 minutes per game. I have no problem with him getting a few looks at the basket every game. But, if we are going to rely on him to handle the ball or to score, or to lockup the star player on D, we're going to continue to lose to UAB, Houston, Gardner-Webb, etc. Moving him off the point with Meeks in the lineup, in theory, should result in more wide open, uncontested shots...which I have more confidence in Porter making than Crawford. I can see both points. And, I'll offer you guys a third option... Why not start Porter, Bradley and Crawford, with Meeks coming off the bench until he's back to 100%? I think Porter could be far more effective in a role where he's asked to be a spot up shooter. I also like the idea of having a guy like Meeks or Crawford providing some offense off the bench. And since Meeks is coming back from an injury and Crawford is playing the best of his career (as CC noted), it only makes sense to keep him as a starter and Meeks as a sub at this point...at least until Meeks proves he's back to 100% and is playing so good it would be insane to not start him. Also, just because he starts doesn't mean Porter has to play more minutes than those guys...I think you could guage that on a game-by-game basis, depending on who's playing well that night...if Crawford and Meeks are both playing well, then they should be in the game down the stretch, but if one is having an off-night and Porter has been playing well, then he should be in. We've all got our own opinions, but it's Gillispie's job to figure out what lineups and rotations work best for his team...and that doesn't always mean you put your 5 most talented guys in the starting lineup (see lbbc's reference to Manu Ginobli). Crawford or Meeks could come off the bench and still play more minutes than Porter. I really wish Jasper was healthy...it would be nice to have one true PG available.
December 20, 200718 yr I have more confidence in Porter making than Crawford. . Provided he actually takes the shot and doesnt pump fake and then drag his pivot foot for a TO.

December 21, 200718 yr Wow! Joe Crawford, the worst McDonald's AA ever is what some of you say. The man will be in the top 20 in scoring all time at Kentucky by years end. He's not a star but a solid college bsketball player is definite. To say your more comfortable with Porter over Crawford is ignorant.Porter is a player who should play 5 mins a game period! But he is the son Billy never had i guess so he will continue to play his 25 mins a game and Billy will continue embarassing what is Kentucky basketball.

By the way, Carter had his best game of the year and that will be his best game of the year.It seems like everytime a player has one good game he is now going to be a contributer.Stewart had an excellent game earlier this year and now he doesn't even play long enough to sweat.

I don't think anyone ever said that Porter is better than Crawford or that they are more comfortable with him in every area (in fact only in shooting 3's is he better). I think you missed a lot of the points that were made.

December 21, 200718 yr Author Absolutely. Some of the shots Vaden hit were just great shots. I'm not taking anything away from Vaden. Anytime somebody shoots like that, you've got to give credit to the O. But, Porter is responsible for the majority of the barrage as far as I'm concerned. He fouled Vaden on the 3 to get him started. And, he's simply too small to guard Vaden. Quite a few of the 3's that Vaden hit were with Porter challenging the shot. You're telling me that, at 6'4'', Joe Crawford couldn't have done a better job contesting those shots? Or, at 6'7''ish, Ramon Harris wouldn't have done a better job contesting those shots? I find that hard to believe, but you may be right. If that's the case, then we have a major problem because that makes a total of 3 guys in our starting lineup who are incapable of playing D. That presents a major problem, especially with our inability to find any rhythm on the offensive side. I am telling you that the way I see Billy G's choice is one of two ways....1) He didn't think any of those could do a better job; B) He doesn't know how to coach. I don't think the 2nd one is accurate, so that leads me to believe A is the correct answer.

Did you just call the UK coach ignorant????? Cause didn't Crawford start on the bench against Houston while Porter was in the starting lineup?

No one is ignorant over an opinion. 2. Porter is a better catch and shoot player than Crawford. Porter is playing with a lot of confidence from beyond the arc. 3. It's not Billy that is embarassing, it's UK's defense.
