Reds draft Braves Sergio Valenzuela in Rule #5 draft

Featured Replies

Can someone please explain this one to me? How in the world do they expect this kid to stay on the roster? He's going to have to have a lot of hamstring pulls while running in the outfield. His numbers at A ball were awful last year.

Tradebait to the Nationals and their 5-tool OF loving GM?

He's a pitcher.

He walked 18.

New league record!

Struck out 18.

Another new league record! In addition he hit the sportswriter, the public address announcer, the bull mascot twice...

Also new league records! But, Joe, this guy's got some serious stuff!

He's a pitcher.

I took the running in the OF comment to mean he was an outfielder.

See Jared Burton

I understand now.

And with the bullpen getting crowded now, where he is going to have a position unless some of the BP mates are going to be packaged in a trade.

The pen was so weak last year, easy to hide Burton. This year, you may have to cut a decent pitcher to have a spot for him.

They have a spot for him now with the release of Cantu, but I still don't get it. This guy looks to be very below average.

Cantu was an infielder correct? That is not a spot for a pitcher.

5 starters of which this guy is not one. The new closer, Weathers, Burton, Bray, Majewski, Weathers, Belisle. That is 12 pitchers. Where is the spot without it being a decent pitcher.

The only thing that would make sense is if this were the AAA or AA phase of the Rule 5 daft. Otherwise it makes no sense at all.

Perhaps to re-stock a Minor League club or include, with another trade. Hey, I'm for getting pitching and go from there.

Doesn't Rule 5 players have to be with Major League team for a year or they go back to the other team?

Yes, and I'm disappointed in Strike3. He should know better.

I say we chalk it up to senility and let it pass.:D
