A genealogical treasure; it is probably a thousand pages of Annapolis families; going back to the 1600s. Names, dates of birth, marriage, death; occupations, children, who the children married, etc.

I traced back one of our roots to Pocahontas. :lol:

 

She married only one time, only had one child and it appears that it all traces to my current family. Who knows how accurate the record keeping was, but just fascinating if that's true.

Pretty cool. Here's a true story involving mcmama.

 

We're in Joseph Beth in Lexington. All of a sudden my wife comes running up to me saying "READ THIS!"

 

It's the first paragraph of a book. The first sentence says something like, "My name is Joe Schmo, and I am the great great great great great great great grandson of John Schmo of Wise County, Virginia".

 

Funny thing is, my wife had just done some DAR research, and she is also related to John Schmo of Wise County, Virginia. The book is called "The Melungeons"; who were a fairly insular group of people who may be related to Indians, Turks, Spaniards, Gypsies, who knows what. This all fits in with a lot of my wife's family history and some events that she remembered from childhood. Things like her uncle who owned a general store turning the other cheek when the gypsies would come to Greenup County every year and lift stuff from the store.
