Romney reminded me of Reed Richards from the Fantastic Four with the touch of gray in his hair above his ears.

I am undecided on Huckabee.

 

I do not like Romney, and definitely not Guiliani.

Actually, there was a question on the "truth" last night. Guy asked if they believed in this book. And held up the Holy Bible.

Romney did impress me last night. THought he handled his flip flop on the abortion issue very well.

Don't like Guiliani at all.

So, if we were to put together a snyopsis of the debate from the above posts, it would say "Everyone looked great and everyone looked terrible."

To me this was a contest of one-upsmanship to see who could seem the most socially conservative. I loved how Romney wouldn't define torture while arguing with a man who knows first hand what torture is.

Huckabee sounded like a talking points memo in a suit.

 

Worst part of the night was when people booed the retired general who happens to be gay and the candidates trying to defend their stance on gays in the military. Hunter's defense of that policy was just assinine.

 

To me, McCain won with Thompson coming in second. When I first registered to vote I was Republican b/c I wanted to vote for McCain in the Ohio primary. I changed promptly when W got the nomination. I won't vote for McCain b/c of his Iraq stance, but if he became president I wouldn't be as upset as I would be with any of the other GOP alternatives.

That is not what Romney did. And I cannot believe I am defending him. He said he does not think it is wise for a Presidential CANDIDATE to define torture in the election process so that this country's enemies know what can and cannot be done.

 

He did not say he would not define torture, just not in the public setting for the information to be given to this country's enemies.

 

Now whether you want to debate whether that is a logical position or not, is fair. But it was not simply, he wouldn't define torture.

 

I agree on Hunter's stance. It did not sound good at all. I thought McCain handled that question the best.

 

I can bet that Huckabee's Fair Value Tax nor his view of the children of illegal immigrants are not a Republican talking point.

The reason I respect McCain is b/c he's anti-torture. Romney pulled a Bushism IMO. Waterboarding is torture but he can't just come out and say it b/c he wants to use it IMO. I also didn't like his (Romney) little rant about sending every terrorist to Gitmo and not letting them stand trial in the US Justice system. Another Bush-like stance that just makes my blood boil. If they're guilty our Justice system will prove that.

Is that last point, not putting ourselves above the world. The exact position that people rail on against Bush. Shouldn't they be held in a world court for war crimes instead of the American court system?

 

I thought McCain handled the question well. Thanked the gentleman for his service but respectfully disagreed as the military leaders indicate the policy is working very well and has been for the past 15 years.

Ron Paul is coming off a bit like Howard Dean.

 

I'd advise Huckabee (and others) to avoid the cheap and easy Hillary joke. Its unbecoming and gives credence to her as a legitimate opponent.

 

I thought Mitt's response to the flag question was perfect.

 

While I don't care for Rudy(and I can't put my finger on why that is), I thought he did a great job of showing his experience. Rather than simply saying "I ran NYC" he said "I ran the 3rd largest government in the country" or something to that effect. Much more powerful when you put it in perspective.

That was really my only knock on Huckabee last night...I thought the sending her to Mars joke was funny and I get the feeling he did it more to play up to the crowd and show some humor, but I still think it might have been a better move to just leave it alone.

 

How in the world did Ron Paul get in the Republican race? He's a democrat...he'd have a better chance with that crowd.
