There has been a discussion among friends about players going both ways. I would expect more teams in class A and AA to play players both ways due to roster size. But what about the bigger schools such as Trinity and X. Do these types of programs play players on both sides of the ball? Just curious, look forward to the response.

I think all teams 6A thru 1A try to play people one way as much as possible. Sometimes a team may only have 1 or 2 guys play both ways and 2 years later they may have 7 going both ways. Just depends on the depth an talent level in that particular year. Obviously larger schools can usually avoid having players go both ways easier than small schools can.

 

A lot of teams have guys that CAN play both ways but they try to limit that to a series or two or only if needed.

St.X has no players going both ways to my knowledge. Trinity may have a couple that will play on both sides of the ball, Robey and Kupper, but I don't think they are full time 2 way starters.

Rockcastle had 13 guys that played total on offense and defense this year. There were 2 on offense that didn't play defense. Rock always has 8-9 going both ways.

Im not sure about Belfry, but they have a lot of depth at every position so they are contiuously rotating to keep their guys fresh.

Lone Oak starts 6 players both ways:

#5 Corey Robinson Qb & Cb

#8 Jamarielle Brown Wr & Cb

#24 Travis Hickman Wr & S

#71 Drey Duncan C & Ng

 

Lone Oak is also a very deep team & rotates alot of guys in & out.

Breathitt Co. almost always has 6 or 7 play both ways. Usually, there are a couple of players each year who are in on every play of the game until it is in hand.

That explains the whoppin HHS took a few years back.

Currently, Trinity is using 4 young men on both sides of the ball. They may not start, but see much action rotating in on the action on offense and defense. A wideout and a running back see action in the defensive backfield and two lineman play both sides depending on the situation.

Franklin County has about 9 players that play both ways and most of their kids all play special teams as well.

Raceland has always had several guys going both ways. At a 1A school it's hard to find the kind of numbers and talent to have two seperate units.

I believe that NCC has only 1 player that plays both ways extensively .
