Would Jesus be considering one of the extremes or a moderate.

Featured Replies

Jesus would be and was a libertarian. I don't believe that He would have advocated a government that seized a large percentage of its citizens' wealth to do His work.

Render unto Caesar the things which are Caesar’s, and unto God the things that are God’s

Jesus was way ahead of his time on the issue of the separation of church and state.

I hear what you're saying but he also told the man who had a lot:

"Go and sell all you have and give it to the poor; then come an follow me."

When the dejected owner of much walked away, Jesus said: "It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to get into heaven."

Jesus is our Lord and Savior and above any and all others. I don't think that he differentuates(spelling?) between Republicans/Democrats/ Liberal/ moderates or any other tag that "man" wants to put on us. We are all his children and he wants us all to come to him. God's word is concrete and not to be deinied. I go on the simple statement of...."God Said it, I believe it and that's it ;)". Jesus is very clear on his word in the Bible and there are NO other way/ways or explanations of his word.

IMO there are very good Christians that are in all parties and there are also ones in all parties that are outside of the Lord. All I can do is pray that those that are will come to know the Lord and be saved. God is not a Democrat, Moderate or Liberal and you do not spell God ..G.O.P. ;).

What I am saying is that there is good and bad in all of us and in all parties and politics are not going to matter one bit in Heaven.... or Hell for that matter. Being a Democrat or Republican is not going to get anyone into Heaven. Coming to know Jesus as your personal Lord and Saviour, being saved and becoming a Christian is and that is the oly thing that will.

I agree with much of what you said.

When I noticed the above bolded I ask: "So how's your Greek and Hebrew these days?" All the rest is translation.

Conservatives, liberals, and moderates can be charitable. Jesus never advocated forcing people to do the right thing under the threat of earthly penalties (including imprisonment). He wanted us to use our free will to do the right thing.

He also said: "Neither do I condemn you. Now go and sin no more."

You left that part out. He would not condemn her. Does that mean he's grown soft on adultery?

I don't think so. He chose to place mercy and grace above the law and the STAND of the law. That's a MODERATE.

The condemn was an enternal judgment that would have occurred if they would have stoned and killed her.

Would a moderate take the stance that he did not come to bring peace but a sword. His coming meant that families would be split. Is that the stance of a moderate?

Define libertarian please.

I don't think Jesus carried anything about wealth beyond tithing to allow the church to do God's work.

There was a promise of eternal penalites though.

Libertarian, in a closely defined nutshell, is almost a more conservative Republican. They emphasize individual liberties, each person should be the owners of the own life. They favor a minimal central government, and local governments equally only as small as needed.

They argue on a lot of other issues other than government size; some libertarians are isolationist, others are interventionalists (although few in my experience). Some are Pro-Life, some are Pro-Choice.

It's more a political philosophy than a political party IMO. Barry Goldwater was a big Republican who had libertarian views.

Thanks.

The bolded would rule out Jesus being a libertarian or a librarian:p.

Because Jesus told us to GIVE UP our lives for His Church.

Thanks.

:D Very, very true. I guess what I mean is that each person's life shouldn't be owned by the government; they should make as many decisions for themself as possible (and those decisions should be made for Him above).

I guess I am also obligated to say that Ron Paul is a libertarian as well.

Savior...to save mankind of his Sins. Key word "Mankind".

Savior...to save mankind of his Sins. Key word "Mankind".

Boy, is my wife going to be ticked.

And unless teachers make a LOT more than I think, you are misinterpreting what the Democrats were saying. Did a lot of people of moderate income receive a tax break? Yes they did. Did the people of very high incomes receive much larger tax breaks? Yes again. On another thread I pointed out that your share of what the government borrowed was considerably larger than the tax break received. Thinking you got I good deal when someone hands you $10.00 while sticking an IOU for $15.00 into your pocket is drinking the Republican Kool Aid.

Again, you have to define larger, as the people of lesser means received much larger percentage cuts. As to the debt, people of greater means will end up paying much more of that back also.

HHS, Mine was too when I told her. Then I asked her to submit Colossians 3:18 and you would have thought I cursed her, Good luck with that one.

The condemn was an enternal judgment that would have occurred if they would have stoned and killed her.

Nothing personal LBC, because I generally agree with you but, how do you know what "Condemn" meant by Jesus here? There is no clarifying thought other than the word. You are reading into the text what is not there on the surface all so you can make it sound like it was only an eternal distinction rather than a physical one.

There was a promise of eternal penalites though.
Correct me if I am wrong, but Jesus did not advocate governments forcing people to do His will. That is very much a libertarian approach to life. He asked His followers to commit their lives to him, but Jesus did not lobby governments to force people to act in a Christian way nor did he ask for special favors from the government for Him or his followers.
