Would Jesus be considering one of the extremes or a moderate.

Featured Replies

Was wondering it, this weekend as I listened to our minister's sermon. He was talking about how people like to walk the line between what Jesus calls us to do and what the world/Satan wants us to do.

We don't want to be way over there where Jesus is because we would be seen as "religious" but we know we don't want to be way over there with Satan. So, we flirt with the line.

Which got me to thinking about the far right, far left and moderate labels.

Moderate is a position of compromising.

Jesus never compromised. This was his stance and he stuck to it. So whether you think he would be far right or far left, he was far and NOT a moderate.

I see Jesus very much as the moderate. He was ever the defender against the hypocrites who wielded the Law against the commonfolk. I'd even say Jesus was a left leaning moderate.

So, he changed his positions for the sake of compromising and bringing about a peaceful solution?

No, he sought common ground to engage people where they were and then shared with them the grace behind the law. That is my understanding of Moderate.

Let's just say I disagree with your definition of moderate.

Yes and no. He sought common ground to engage them but did not seek common ground on his positions. His positions were firm and non-negotiable.

To me, a moderate is someone who looks for a compromise between the two extremes.

While Jesus looked to bring all into the discussion, he never compromised his positions for the sake of the matter to bring peace.

And he did not always seek common ground to engage people. There were many times that he called people out for their actions that stood in contrast to his positions.

One instance that jumps to mind is the stoning of the young lady. He engaged her but then held firm to his stance when he told her to go "and sin no more."

And that may very well be a problem in this country. We all have different definitions of the different labels.

My parents were on the anti-Bush tax cuts thing as being only for the wealthy. They had ordered and downed a gallon of the Democrat Kool-Aid. When I told them that according to the Dems definition, me as a public school teacher along with my wife a public school teacher were the "wealthy" that the Dems were going on about the tax breaks were for, they were stunned.

They had a different definition of wealthy than the Dems were having.

I considered that, but the more I think about it, I believe he would be a right-leaning moderate.

He said "give to Ceaser what is Ceaser's" but I am not sure he would be in favor of all those heavy taxes. Charity is more of a personal thing IMO than a decision made by someone else.

I bet He would be anti-abortion and anti-death penalty, especially considering that there are other ways of protecting society from criminals.

And unless teachers make a LOT more than I think, you are misinterpreting what the Democrats were saying. Did a lot of people of moderate income receive a tax break? Yes they did. Did the people of very high incomes receive much larger tax breaks? Yes again. On another thread I pointed out that your share of what the government borrowed was considerably larger than the tax break received. Thinking you got I good deal when someone hands you $10.00 while sticking an IOU for $15.00 into your pocket is drinking the Republican Kool Aid.

Jesua was the Christ! I dont think we can put that into a simple category.

Actually, I think you did. He is Christ. And that is simple enough and good enough for me.:thumb:

I will give him two other categories/labels that are good ones. My Lord and My Savior.

But for the sake of debate, I brought the thread up and in no way am I trying to demean or box him in.

Finally we can agree on something LBBC:dancingpa

He also said: "Neither do I condemn you. Now go and sin no more."

You left that part out. He would not condemn her. Does that mean he's grown soft on adultery?

I don't think so. He chose to place mercy and grace above the law and the STAND of the law. That's a MODERATE.

Jesus is our Lord and Savior and above any and all others. I don't think that he differentuates(spelling?) between Republicans/Democrats/ Liberal/ moderates or any other tag that "man" wants to put on us. We are all his children and he wants us all to come to him. God's word is concrete and not to be deinied. I go on the simple statement of...."God Said it, I believe it and that's it ;)". Jesus is very clear on his word in the Bible and there are NO other way/ways or explanations of his word.

IMO there are very good Christians that are in all parties and there are also ones in all parties that are outside of the Lord. All I can do is pray that those that are will come to know the Lord and be saved. God is not a Democrat, Moderate or Liberal and you do not spell God ..G.O.P. ;).

What I am saying is that there is good and bad in all of us and in all parties and politics are not going to matter one bit in Heaven.... or Hell for that matter. Being a Democrat or Republican is not going to get anyone into Heaven. Coming to know Jesus as your personal Lord and Saviour, being saved and becoming a Christian is and that is the oly thing that will.

Jesus would be and was a libertarian. I don't believe that He would have advocated a government that seized a large percentage of its citizens' wealth to do His work.

Render unto Caesar the things which are Caesar’s, and unto God the things that are God’s

Jesus was way ahead of his time on the issue of the separation of church and state.
