Miller-Hopson match up tonight !

Featured Replies

Several questions. How did Barner and others from MC look? We all know about Setty and Miller. Is Hopson still going to MSU or are UK,UL and others now in the picture? How come these scrimmages are never announced? They probably could have charged admission to this and the Rose Hill game, why so secretive?

Although not at total capacity, the Sheldon Clark Gym was awfully full for a series of preseason scrimmages from about noon until the Mason/UHA game at 7:30.

At six bucks a pop, and active concession sales, I'd say the folks in Martin County made out pretty well.

WYMT TV 57 was on hand to cover the event featuring potential Mr. Basketball candidates, as well as a number of D1 commitments and recruits.

They even had a guy hit a shot from half court to win $5,000.

The Sheldon Clark folks couldn't have treated visiting teams and coaches any better. They had an outstanding hospitality suite, fed players, coaches, team managers, media... it was a great event.

Not exactly a secret scrimmage... I guess they don't promote it statewide because they have a strong local turnout, and don't figure too many folks are going to drive to Inez unless their team is playing there.

Mason County is far more than one man show. Miller is a GREAT player but Setty is very good also. I was impressed with Barnes. He played very well in the post. I like the size of the Mason County team and they really work hard on "D". Miller is everything and more than what I had heard but like I said, Setty really impressed with his play too. UHA, I am sure that Hopson will come along but Edmonson was the man that carried UHA on this night. He is a player also.

Here is the unofficial stats from the match-up.

Darius Miller:

8-17 on 2 pt shots

5-6 on 3pt shots

13-23 total from the field

10-10 from the free throw line

9 rebounds

1 assist

3 steals

3 blocked shots

1 turnover

Scotty Hopson:

4-7 on 2pt shots

2-5 on 3pt shots

6-12 total from the field

3-4 from the freethrow line

5 rebounds

1 assist

1 steal

2 blocked shots

2 turnovers

Barner is a decent player but is still just a sophomore and will get limited minutes this season. He has alot of work to do if he wants quality minutes.

I've seen Mason twice, I can't believe that you think they are anything but the best in the state. If not, I'd like to see just who you'd insert as tops in the state. Maybe I can guess.
I have continually posted that Mason is my preseason #1 pick in the State. Should win their region hands down w/o really being tested. Can anyone else in the state beat them? I believe that their are 4 maybe 5 teams in the 11th that can beat them on a given night.

Agree.

How many other teams have you seen besides Mason Co?

I've seen Scott Co., I think Mason is better. And I've seen alot of other teams that aren't in the same league as Mason.:walk:

I think Mason has a great team, but I'm just not sure that they have enough after Miller to be the best team and go all the way this year. I do like Setty's game. I wasn't that impressed with Middleton the 3 or 4 times I watched him last year, but he should be better, he was just a sophomore. I just believe it is way too soon to say a certain team is the best team in the state yet. With all due respect to Rose Hill (they will be very good by the end of the year IMO) and UHA, Mason Co. hasn't played a team even close to a top 10 team IMO yet.

One thing great about LexCath, Bryan Station, Scott Co, Mason Co, etc, is they all play each other I believe and you get a good idea how good everyone is.

I don't disagree with you. However, most polls have Scott Co. and Mason 1&2 either way. I've seen both and I think Mason is better. If there are others like Bryan Station or Lex Cath. that are in the same ilk I've not seen them. And as you say, this will all play out on the hardwood. My point is that for now, I find no reason to doubt that Mason is the best as we speak. BTW, Middleton was very good vs. Rose Hill.

I watched all four of the mentioned teams this past Saturday along with Rose Hill and I thought Mason looked better than any of the other 3.

Mason Co. is very deep with talent. :irked:

If you take the top player from all teams involved, Mason Co. still makes great run for the title.
