I agree. If I were guessing, I'd say of his 11 completions, seven were for 1st downs on 3rd and 4th and long situations. He's a playmaker.

I've seen Danville a couple times (but not tonight) and wasn't that impressed with him. I'm sure he's improved over the course of the year. Like you guys said, Danville will be loaded next year.

There are 2 minutes remaining in the game. You have the ball 4th down and goal at your opponent's 9 yard line. You are trailing by 9 points. You have an EXCELLENT field goal kicker. You need two scores no matter how you look at it. What would you opt to do on the 4th down? Anyone sitting near Adopted Admiral, Wireman and myself tonight knows what we would have done.

That was the consensus amongst our group.

^^That and the onside kick with 8 to go were both puzzling. Gay makes the field goal without question. The only problem was that they had no timeouts left, so you are left with being forced to stop the Tiger fullbacks pretty quickly, and really Danville gave up 5.2 yards per carry on the ground tonight. So it was iffy either way.

 

But the onside was a stumper. Plenty of time left, and at that point you had all timeouts. Bardstown gets the ball on their own 49, and by converting one first down was able to us up about 4 minutes, even though the drive wasn't all that good. Heck, even if it was 3 and out, the punt puts you too deep to make a quick impact. Gay is kicking all touchbacks, I just didn't get that one at all.

It is so stressful, even for a coach at this time in the season....sometimes coaches get wrapped up in the moment.

One thing I would like to see from the "talented" kickers, is more of the "pop-up" onsides kick....that seems to be really effective at the higher levels.

Yet, you wouldn't expect a coach with as many titles as Danville's coach has to get wrapped up in the moment when they have so much experience with "moments" such as this. I definitely don't want to start a "bash the coach" discussion because we have been lucky to have such a wonderful head coach but I just had to rub my head after the game tonight.
