That is not true Tolle and Brooks were being covered one on one several times the Mason fans were going crazy there was no saftey and we did not go to our best players ,but we did not throw to them enough all year, Russell had no answer if Mason would have thrown the ball they would have won by 2 touchdowns.Thompson had not finished off a run since he got hurt if you were going to run the ball Pollit should have run it. The game was lost when Mason had the ball 2nd and goal from the 4.Mason should have either run the fade,short dump to Tolle or powered the ball with Pollit.Thompson is a dancer not a power runner and who did not no on short yardage Cox who was way overused on the qb sneak was not coming .Ivan plays to his strengths where Mason tries to trick everyone.Its easy Russell could not cover the pass Mason should have won easy.

From what I could tell, Russell played with two safeties most of the time and always with at least one. MC was actually 15/21 passing with three td's...Not too bad if you ask me! IMO, we have a great head coach and staff, and they do a wonderful job calling the plays! I stand behind Coach B. on all the plays he calls in. I think we are very fortunate to have a wonderful head coach and staff to help him out! We will compete year in and year out, and I don't think we can do much better with ANY other staff! Russell is a quality football team....Always have been and always will be! As long as this district stays the way it is, with a few exceptions, it will always be MC and Russell playing for a district title and fighting to move on to the regionals! We had two classic battles this year, and I don't think things will change!

Finally getting around to weighing in on this one...

 

A great, hard-fought game by two class programs. Mason was one play from possibly putting the game away; had Russell on their heels until the INT in the end zone late in the 3rd quarter. Russell, to their credit, made the defensive stop, then executed their offense to perfection the rest of the way.

 

Congrats to Russell on the win; and thanks to the Royals - especially the seniors - on a fine season!:thumb:

Sometimes you pick your poison. Russell shut down the Mason running game but did so at the risk of giving up yardage through the air. Cox through the ball well and made the right reads.

The issue is #12 had a 10 yard cushion from the corner and safety was practically in the box playing run support. If the safety falls back into zone coverage Mason still has an easy 10 yards from the slant before the safety even gets close.

That is true. The cushion was there because of the zone coverage. The cornor having the deep third. Mason County did a good job with formations and motion dictating what the safties could or could not do.

 

I do believe that Mason ran a more wide open offense in this game than they did the first time the teams met.

Congrats to Russell and the win. Russell coaches are first class and I appreciate the coaches comments and consoling #10 Richie Cox after the game. Thanks to Coach B. for supporting #10 through some rough times. Special thanks to Seniors and players for accepting #10 into your program and making him feel welcome. It was a hard decision to sit sophomore year as a transfer but it was worth it. Good luck to Big Country, Big Ray, Little Huron, Scottie, and Tolle. I know you guys will all do well at the next level and I look forward to watching you guys play on Saturdays. I do think that #10's best ball is still in front of him as this was his 2nd year of football. Now you have to choose #10 football or baseball. Thanks to BGP and the Guru.
