Watusi Posted November 5, 2007 Posted November 5, 2007 I think if all the 1 vs 4 machups would be played on Thursday and the 2 vs 3 games on Friday it would increase attendance greatly. Since all district matchups are played in the first two rounds, this would allow fans and coaches to attend the game of the two teams you would potentially face in the next round. Yes, it would decrease your preparation time by a day, but by and large the 1 vs 4 games are not all that competitive anyway and it would increase your prep time for round 2 by a day. Any thoughts on that idea?
Auxier RiverRat Posted November 5, 2007 Posted November 5, 2007 Thursday nights are not for high school football..............Its for Louisville Cardinal football:D

EKUAlum05 Posted November 6, 2007 Posted November 6, 2007 Maybe make it Friday/Saturday, so teams would get an extra day of practice. It would really only work as long as UK and UL played early in the day on Saturday. I think Thursday/Friday works best on many levels.1) Most 1-4 games will be blowouts, thus this gives the 1 seed a little reward by giving them an extra day off before their next game to heal little bruises and bumps 2) No real competition of college football keeping people from going out to the games ona Saturdaynight. 3) I am sure teams would much rather have that extra day of practice heading into Round 2, than Round 1. 4) Since this new palyoff system was desined so that the first round won't have long drives , then surely it will not cause any conflicts with class the next day.
Jim Schue Posted November 6, 2007 Posted November 6, 2007 I love the Thursday/Friday idea, especially if it's the 1-4 games on Thursday. As was mentioned in another thread, the 2-3 games tend to be quite good, and it would be nice for more folks to be able to catch them.

Any thoughts on that idea? Respectively, I disagree, in particular, 5A. I might be being a little biased, but other than Highlands and BG being the cream of the crop, I think the rest of that class is a toss up, anybody on given nite. I agree, though about the increasing of crowd attendance. No thursday, games though, just friday and saturday.

I agree, though about the increasing of crowd attendance. No thursday, games though, just friday and saturday. There are exceptions, and 5A may have a few, which will make this a fun week. But I stand by my statement that historically, the 1/4 matchups are not competitive. Also, I want to be clear that I only suggested that for the 1st round and only for 1 vs 4 games. And like EKUalum so nicely put it, Thursday works better than Saturday for several reasons (for these 1st round 1/4 games).

I agree with that, historically they haven't been, but I think with this new Class realignment, the playoffs...especially the first round are going to be a little crazy. Moreso than what we are all used too, that is. I guess we'll all just have to wait and see?!:thumb: Best of luck to your Pirates this week...I pull for the smash mouth team all the time, unless you are playing Mercer. haha
