Johnson came in mid-way through his junior year. Leonard and Orlando had played together for a couple of years, but I beg to differ that a QB is not a critical player. He touches the ball on every offensive snap. Like I said before – this about 2007 and not 2005 and how is loosing one game to a pretty darn good Owensboro Catholic game not using your talent?

To me, the team that has made the biggest turnaround is Caldwell.

 

I'll agree with that. Caldwell County looked hopeless early in the year. I had no idea that they would rebound and win the district. Now they look like a team that could make it to the state semifinals...or even Louisville.

Johnson did not play his entire junior season at Fort Campbell because of when he moved here, although this is like splitting hairs. These boys don’t play together in any type of “feeder system” or in Pop Warner, Jr. Pro, or middle school together. For the most part they might play two or three years together at the high school level having never played with most or all of their teammates prior to high school and the point is that the FC coaching staff does a good job of bringing a very diverse group of kids together as a team year in and year out.

As far as the point about Berner using his talent…that was the core subject of this discussion that Coach Berner does not effectively use his talent based primarily off of them loosing to OC in the 2005 playoffs. Again I would assert that this is about 2007 not 2005 and while I agree that Coach Haskins from Lone Oak is worthy of Coach of the Year consideration, if a determining factor is what happened in previous years then compare Fort Campbell’s record in 2005 & 2006 to Lone Oak’s, but that is not what this thread is about, its about 2007. IMO Coach Berner deserves consideration as well as Coach Haskins. One could argue that Fort Campbell has done more with less this year then they did in 2005. They soundly beat Owensboro Catholic who has beat FC in the playoffs 3 of 6 years and they handed Trigg County one of its worst losses in recent memory and this with no big Division I prospects like 2005, not to mention a much tougher schedule then in the previous six years. Yes FC has lost two games, but they also scheduled 5 teams that are in higher divisions and no teams in lower divisions compared to Lone Oak’s 9-0 and they did not schedule a single team in 5A or 6A and they play six teams in divisions lower then them.

By the way, I was the one hoping to meet Bell Co. down the road in the state championship game. Now, if that were to happen, I would call that in itself quite an accomplishment for LO. No knock against Bell Co., I know absolutely nothing about them other than they're the number one team in 4A; just being able to play them would be a success for our team (program).

My whole point of citing Trigg's success is that I feel they have decent program stability, success, and talent pool(more so than LO, in this case).......NOTHING i posted had to do Trigg vs. FC this week. So I don't really know why you even mentioned that, other than to downplay the point I was trying to make. Thanks buddy.

Not to mention, since you don't know anything about Bell Co, they are hard-nosed traditionally from what I hear and read. In '98, Mayfield got crushed by Middlesboro, who pretty much made us look like we didn't belong on the field (we also didn't play like the team we were all season, buts thats just another sob story of mine). My point is Bell Co. beat that team 21-18...thats not a whoopin by any means, but its apparent they have teams like that quite often. Here.....

You keep refering to Lone Oak like they are on a title march. Im sorry but their team just hasn't been tested. They haven't played anyone that resembles a high caliber-team they will see in semi-finals, not to mention a team like Bell Co. I don't think you need to be talking about playing a team at state yet. Your team hasn't been there before and they aren't there yet...........

I stand corrected. Johnson did play his junior year, it was his sophomore year that he transferred to Fort Campbell. However, like I have said several times before this is about 2007 and in 2007 Fort Campbell has significantly improved against a tough schedule and is likely to go deeper in the playoff then in the previous five years.

 

What I find utterly amazing is this argument that Berner has not used his talent. In the six years before Coach Berner arrived at Fort Campbell they went 22-41, in the six years since he has been coaching they are 54-15. This is not just a one or two year peek in talent this is good coaching and a good system!

You misintrepret what I've said. Looks like I know as much about Bell Co. as you do; I've read and heard about them just as you have. It's no secret that Lone oak has no history at all; I'm not really sure why you wasted time on the 1990-2006 comparisons/percentages?? What I have said is that Coach Haskins has done a tremendous job turning the program around, and for that he should be considered Coach of the Year. Also, I only implied that it would be an honor to play a team like Bell Co. (IF) we were to make it to the state championship. I am not ahead of myself as I am aware there are several other games yet to be played and not one from here on out is to be taken lightly. I believe it's okay to "hope" to meet someone in the state championship...shouldn't that be a goal of every football team when the start their season?

The best thing that happened to Lone Oak is getting out of the Class 2A, 1st district because they couldn't hang. Robinson played in that district for at least 2 years and I remember some blowout scores. Moving to another class with less district teams helped them this year.

Maybe the best thing for Fort Campbell this year was to get out of Lone Oak's district. The teams you saw the last two years were sophomore and junior clubs ... now they're seniors.

Fort Campbell should have been 4-0 against Lone Oak the last four years, given their clear advantage in talent. Lone Oak didn't have anyone that could dream about matching up with guys like Johnson, Gordon and Masaalafeua, or however you spell it.

 

Bottom line ... this year's teams are basically last year's teams, and Fort Campbell barely beat Lone Oak at home last year, 17-14 on the base.

Lone Oak had the opportunity to beat Fort Campbell last year but had a couple of drop balls & a fumble that really hurt. However, the 2005 Ft. Campbell team was loaded with talent & should have won the 2A Championship. I agree that Lone Oak benefited from the re-alignment. However I think Lone Oak would have beaten Ft. Campbell & Trigg Co this year but we'll never find out.

I remember Ft. Campbell had their backup QB in against Lone Oak due to Croft being injured. I think they should play each other next year. 4A vs 2A

Schedules are probably already set for next year, though.

Croft was injured in the 1st half against Lone Oak & wasn't effective before the injury. Lone Oak led at halftime.
