October 26, 200718 yr The DL should be one our biggest conerns IMO..I believe we probably have the WORST DL in the NFL. We have for years, and that is the one thing year after year that has really killed our defense IMO... We don't have one of the worst DL's in the league.

October 26, 200718 yr Outside of the Jamal Lewis game they have held there own. You've got to be kidding. 27th against the rush, 22 in sacks and 27th against the pass. Yea they might hold their own against a high school team. In the NFL the Bengals D line is abysmal.
October 26, 200718 yr Author When you are 27th vs the rush then you have issues up front! 27 vs the pass goes hand in hand when you look at the front end and back end of the defense. Pressure turns to picks etc. The Bengals defense is flat out awful no way around it. Go back through history and look at your top defense and you will find a solid dline. That is part of the Bears problem this year. Urlacher and Briggs are still around but they don't have the big guys keeping Olinemen off of them that they had last year.

I just don't think they have been agressive enough taking care of their Dline/LB problem.

Having healthy linebackers would be nice...However even the years when we did have healthy linebackers this defense has stunk. And want is the one thing that has been the common theme pretty much since Marvin has been here? That is the DL. We have had around the same guys on the DL since Marvin has got here. And each year these guys have really done nothing...
October 26, 200718 yr We don't have one of the worst DL's in the league. Oh really can you explain why you think this? I mean what other teams have worst DL's than us? Our DL almost every game gets pushed around. We dont have a single guy that needs to be really doubled team at all to be blocked. So most of the time it allows blockers to get to our linebackers. Our D line definitely has to probably be the worst at getting pressure on the QB...I mean yeah Justin Smith always gets his 7 to 8 sacks a year. However is that really good considering we play atleast 16 games a year and all the snaps we have on defense throughout the year. So yeah if you get 8 sacks for the whole year, and then the rest of the time though you really are not getting any pressure on the QB. That is not good at all..I think actually we had two guys who had more sacks last year than Freeney. However Freeney was alot more of a problem for defenses than any of our guys, and he had less sacks..Our DL is terrible and has been since Marvin has been here. It is one of the biggest reasons why teams can run on us, and pick us apart in passing as well...Maybe they arent the WORST in the NFL, but they definitely probably are in the top 5 for the worst in the NFL..
