Pre-season 9th Region Baseball

Featured Replies

No, you missed my point. Beechwood beat no one AT state because they did not make it TO state. Ryle did. They obviously had to beat someone of significance to get there, right? In fact, wasn't Beechwood - who beat all these incredible teams - one of them? Look, Beechwood will be very good this year. I'm taking nothing away from them at all. But as of right now, Ryle has scoreboard on them and until that changes, I see no reason to rank Beechwood ahead of them.

Beechwood should be ranked in front of Ryle because when Beechwood lost their graduating class hardly anyone thought the were gonna contend for region. Thus putting them towards the middle of the rankings. Ryle has a great tradition baseball program but you really cannot judge JV players and varsity players until they show it out on the field. And in my opinion Beechwood should be in front of Ryle because they lost one senior, and that means 8+ starters returning. Usually teams get better through time, but in some cases it works against them because they overlook all the little things.

Interesting. Remind me again, who did Beechwood and CCH beat at state? Oh yeah, they didn't go because they were knocked out by Ryle. I find Ryle's ranking a bit odd, but then again I'm admittedly not the most subjective person in the world. I guess we'll start to have a clearer picture of things in a few weeks. I'd be more than happy to have 3 or 4 NKY teams ranked in the top 25 at the end of the season, though my preference would be for Ryle to be the highest of them. :thumb::laugh:

My question would be, what does this have to do w/this yr? This all happened last yr. I don't remember everyone picking BHS to win last yr due to them making it to the finals the yr before. Ryle will be playing w/almost a whole new team of JV players from last yr. They will be very good as will BHS/CCH! If experience wins games, BHS would be my pick. Each team must hit and play defense and get some pitching.

I'll agree with your first part. I was simply responding to a post that implied that Ryle had beaten no one of significance last year, while BHS had beaten several "top" state teams last year and therefore was more deserving of being ranked higher. So, yes, your point is well-taken - i.e., that BHS's wins over Apollo and Lex Christian mean zip this year.

Experience does not win games. Talent wins games. BHS's "experience" means nothing to me. I think BHS will be good this year because they have very nice players. Just as I feel Ryle will be good because they, too, have some very good players. And I don't care the slightest that some of these good players from Ryle played JV last year. They are good players. Period. And they more than proved that last year during high school and during summer ball.

Can I get a copy of Ryles schedule. I would like to see the quality teams they play.

I'm doing this against my better judgement, as I can only anticipate the purpose is so you can respond about how "weak" this schedule allegedly is.:p

Think this is accurate, but no guarantees. Had a hard to copy and pasting.

We will see how Ryle plays against some good teams this year and maybe if they beat one of the three. They might recieve some more credit down state next year.

Agreed, as the same could be said of Beechwood's team but they all proved themselves at the V level. We will get an idea where these teams are very early in the season, Apr 4th! Although as you well know, the early season means nothing to either team, just some bragging rights maybe.:ylsuper:

Looks like a lot of great talent returning for many teams. I know there is more and I can't think of their names right now.

Beechwood returns everyone except for the RF Eric Shumuk who was key for the tigers. They have proably the best defensive cather in the 9th region in Chris Miller. Hard hitting 1st baseman Chris Morris who signed with Bresia(?), 2nd baseman Richie Williams, SS or 3rd baseman Adam Gohs who is easily the most under-rated hitter in the 9th region, Brady Slusher will probably play 3rd but no one knows because he plays everywhere, RF Trent Pickett, CF Cody Elliot who will play D-1 at Ball St., and Joseph Collisimo(can't spell that) in LF. They are stacked, but I look for Highlands and Dixie to make noise outside of Beechwood, CCH, and Ryle. Boone County is very over-rated.

Where is Brescia?

Can I get a copy of Ryles schedule. I would like to see the quality teams they play.

Can we get Beechwood's schedule?

Never mind, we know it will be

Calvery Christian twice, Villa Madonnna twice, Heritage Academy, Dayton, Belvue, Holmes, Newport....pretty much like every year.

Easy DD . Actually they did not play most of these last year .I know they played Holmes and Newport ,but I think that may be it .This can be verfied at the KHSAA scoreboard site .They did play Dunbar ,the state champs , 3 times .Lost all 3 but I know once was close until 3 late runs by Dunbar .Beat Appollo with at least 1 8th and 1 9th grader playing . This was at the LIT.

You can check the link to see the schedule .Once again they will spend alot of time on the road .At Bullitt East, E-Town , Fern Creek for LIT,Nelson Co.

They do play Calvary ( 3/25), Villa(3/31), Holmes ( May 8 )and Newport (4/1)Once each .They are early and may get rained out but who knows .

Let's just hope all these young men stay healthy and have great seasons !!:thumb:

Yep.....tough schedule Beechies. Forgot to add Williamstown, Walton and the Little Sisters of the Poor. Beechwood fans should NEVER questions anyone's schedule. Although Ludlow and Silver Grove are baseball power houses, arent't they?
