I think it's alright to hassle a referee until a cuss word is uttered, especially when it is with young kids.

They're not supposed to, but that doesn't stop them from doing it. I've seen more than one official tell them to be quiet or they'd get someone else to work the chains.

 

True. I heard about a member of a chain crew get ejected several weeks back at a HS game for making comments to the refs. They are there to help, but not give commentary.

I agree. I have seen some horrendous officiating this year in the Middle School football ranks, enough for me to want to start speaking like a sailor on shore leave, but you have to just bite your tongue. It is bad enough that you cannot seem to find good officials anymore, but blurting out obcenities just shows a complete lack of class and it sets a poor example to the young kids.

I saw a friend of the coach get a 15 yard penalty when he was just standing on the sidelines, as a spectator...

Then do something about it! Go get a rulebook,take the test, get some flags, shirts, beanbag, flags, whistle, etc, and help out! There are still a great deal of good officials out there. The problem is that the few bad ones seem to get all the attention, most arguments are from people who have never officiated and often don't really understand the rules. We need more people who love the game like many of our current officials do to get on the field and help out. Also, most of the complaining about calls are a few per game out of probably 125+ plays. So it seems that most officials are about 95%+ accurate.

 

I agree that blurting out obscenities shows no class and admire you for biting your tongue. I have had to do that a time or two myself.
