I agree they would pose a serious threat ( as deer also do) if introduced to a car but I don't fear them as much as I do a drunk or meth crazed driver.

Remember the wide open spaces that you refer to were once home to the Elk before man decided to invade their privacy. It was their land before it was ours.

 

My sister hit one with her car in Colorado near where my dad lives. She thought it was a deer, be it the "hugest" deer she ever saw. After the description, it was obvious is was an elk. It barely tagged the front of the car, but did major damage.

It's good she wasn't hurt. I hope I never experience meeting an Elk in that situation.

Perhaps too good of a job. Imagine hitting one of these monsters in a compact car. I think that maybe eastern Kentucky is still a little much populated for animals of this size to roam about and stand around on the highways. I know they are beautiful and magnificant animals to look at, but I think that wider open spaces are a safer enviroment for these animals, and especially for humans. White tailed deer are safety hazards enough.

We couldn't believe it. How gigantic it was. I even asked my son if this was a "dream". I know they let some out in nearby Breathitt but it was just a shock.

 

What part of Breathitt did they let them out in, was it near BuckHorn lake, or maybe down around Turkey Creek?

As beautiful as elk are, they taste even better. My sons and I just had some Elk meat for dinner this evening... mmmmm!

:thumb: I agree. I love backstraps from a whitetail deer but Elk is even better.

I absolutely love eating wild game such as rabbit,squirrel,grouse and turkey but venison is always my favorite.

I am not sure. I just know the game warden cited some guy for shooting one during deer season a few years ago. The hunter drove around Jackson with it on his vehicle claiming he had killed a record buck. The game warden told the local newspaper that anyone who couldn't tell the difference between the two was too dangerous to have a gun in the field.
