Only one of significance was the 1988 game that Frankfort won 14-9. There have been debates for years in Lancaster about a mis-spotted ball that gave Frankfort a first down. I wasn't there (little kid, parents wouldn't take me that night) but I've heard the fussing! That loss cost Garrard their first trip to the playoffs since 1967, a span of 21 years!

 

Frankfort was much better than Garrard back in the '60s and late '80s. Garrard overtook them in the district in the '90s and handled them with ease. Now it seems that the pendelum has swung again!

;)You called me on it! I know Garrard isn't half the team Franklin County is...I knew that was coming when I wrote it. My only intention was to show that holding the ball against Frankfort (like County did) can allow you to put points on the board and keep the Panthers off of it.

I never said that. I'm just saying that is the way to beat Frankfort. I'm not sure if Garrard has weapons to stay within three touchdowns of Frankfort. But that was the method Franklin County in beating Frankfort and Garrard has to try and do the same thing.

Frankfort 48 Garrard 6. Too much speed on the edge on both sides of the ball for the Lions to get much accomplished and nothing happens for the home team in the middle with Jordan Morgan roaming around.

You are correct there. I remember Frankfort trotting out some absolutely terrible teams during that time period. At the same time Garrard had some of their best teams. Mix the two together and it made for blowout football games!

As someone who played on that FHS squad in 1988, there where a ton of stuff that happened that prevents Garrad from winning not just a questionable spot.

 

The best game of the series was the 6-0 win FHS had at Garrad. Great deffesnive game.

I'm sure there was much more to it. I wasn't there, I have no idea. I'm just repeating stories that I've always heard! Remember, when you lose, someone always has to be blamed!

 

I was at that 6-0 game the next season. It was one of those games where you kept hoping for one big play and we never got it.

 

The 18-0 loss at Frankfort in 1990 was another heartbreaker for Garrard. The Golden Lions were undefeated and had beat Harrodsburg the week before. Garrard didn't play well that night and Frankfort did and it was over almost before it started. If I remember correctly, the district ended in a three-way tie between the above teams that season; this was when only two teams made it. Frankfort and Garrard went and Harrodsburg stayed home. The Lions lost to Paris in the first round. Frankfort beat Paris in the second round before losing to Russellville in the state semfinals if I'm not mistaken.

That's correct and that was CoachBuckets senior year. One of the more talented teams Frankfort has had. When they were freshmen coach Webb ask me to come help coach,and told me if he was going to win a state championship that group would be his best shot.I had alot of stuff going on in my life and only got to coach them one year.
