That may be how Ahmadinejad feels but the feeling I got from what took place was the Columbia president let him have it in a public forum and showed what a blithering idiot Ahmadinejad really is.

I think the free thinking world was shown that you handle a sniviling tyrant by exposing his lunacy to free thinking people. Those who believed in the Iranian President are the brainwashed masses now. Those that actually heard Columbia's president take him to task and heard the responses see what a moron the Iranian leader really is.

I'm sure that the friends of Columbia's president are giving him congratulatory handshakes for speaking "truth to power" and letting the Iranian president "have it". But Ahmadinejad was able to get what he really wanted from this encounter. He has audio and video of himself at a prestigeous US university that he'll be able to edit and spin as he sees fit to the Iranian people. He even has video of himself being applauded by the students. Strengthening his support among his own people is infinitely more important to him than how he is viewed in the US.

Certainly the statement that there are no homosexuals in Iran will get noticed. However, anybody who has been paying attention to Ahmadinejad and Iran already knew that they execute homosexuals in Iran. Certainly, any informed individual with even a gram of common sense didn't need Ahmadinejad to speak at Columbia to form an objective opinion of him.

 

The bottom line is that Ahmadinejad benefited more from this encounter than either Columbia or the American people.

To be honest it would not have mattered if he had spoken or not. Spin happens for him irregardless and there was nothing he did or did not say that wasn't going to convince the "masses of Iran."

 

I'm not sure that invite was a good idea but I think the Columbia President surprised me as well as him with his intro. In the end if you want to make a statement, anyone can. I just don't think it's worth calling the Columbia President an idiot over when I think he did a good job of "turning the tables" and catching Ahmadinejad off guard to say the least. I think the US was greatly served because people see him in a light that lets you know this is no ordinary national leader but a clear kook that is hard to trust when he has said so many stupid things. Convincing middle America of that is worth much more than any points he scores with the brainwashed masses in Iran.
