Tough break for the Blazers...

They might end up like the Spurs with Duncan...Robinson got hurt and the Spurs lucked into the #1 pick and had a dominating front line for several years as a result.

What if the Blazers have the same luck? No Oden, so they finish bad again and then land another top 3 pick. They'd really be set for the future if everyone stayed healthy after that.

To be fair, Portland got Bowie at #2. The Dream was #1.

I ment Walton as the #1, I guess I kind of worded it wrong. I thought it was kind of common knowledge Bowie was drafted second, since some no name was taken third.

Where did microfracture surgery come from? I mean, 3 years ago we had never heard of it, but now it seems like it's the "fad" surgery.

Interesting. From wikipedia-

However, some players such as Jason Kidd, John Stockton and Zach Randolph have been able to return at or near their pre-surgery form while players Brian Grant, Chris Webber, Allan Houston and Penny Hardaway never regained their old form while others as Jamal Mashburn and Terrell Brandon never recovered and retired.

I wonder which category GO will fall in?

Jason Kidd, John Stockton, Zach Randolph, Brian Grant, Chris Webber, Allan Houston, Penny Hardaway, Jamal Mashburn, Terrell Brandon & Amare Stoudemire have all had this surgery.

Kidd, Stockton & Randolph all had it & were able to come back & be pretty close to the same but Brian Grant, Chris Webber, Allan Houston and Penny Hardaway never were close to the same. Mashburn & Brandon retired because of it.

Amare had it in October 05 & returned March 06. He did have trouble when he came back so he went back to rehab. He returned to form in the 06-07 season.

In typical Oden fashion, he apologized profusely to the owner and GM of the Blazers for his knee being injured.

Just watched a piece on ESPN about the surgery and both Mash and Houston stated they lost their explosiveness due to the surgery. Mash said before the injury he would pull of his crossover and be able to explode to the hole, either finishing or getting fouled. After surgery he could still crossover but he couldn't get to the hole and had to develope a fade away jumper in the paint. They stated it was a surgery developed for the elderly, not a surgery meant for 250lb, athletic men.

To be fair, I doubt anyone expected Oden to come into the league and hone his crossover or fadeaway jumper. I also doubt anyone would label Oden as "explosive" in the first place. Hopefully this is just a minor setback for him and he can rebound in his rookie campaign - 2008-2009.

Greg Oden = Sam Bowie
