There may be no starting pitching to get...but perhaps some bullpen help can be had without loosing the purse strings too far. I don't think offering up a couple of $mil to another OF is the route I'd go, heck we have that in Freel.

A 5th OF isn't going to make a lot of money, so that's a moot point. And if you want to let Dunn go for more marginal pen help, I'll pass...

I'm not familiar, with the contract structures but can a Freel, Milton and others package, be possible for a #3 or #4 starting pitcher....or not enough value, for the cost.

Milton is gone and Freel might not bring a pouch of Big League Chew and a bucket of BP balls...

Not my point at all, I never said I'd let Dunn go. But a 5th OF that "isn't going to make alot of money" can be replaced with Bruce who isn't going to make alot of money and can be as productive as one you go get. If the argument is that he needs AB's and can only get them at AAA then I agree.

I'll take the marginal pen help over someone else's 5th OF.

Bruce is 20 and needs to play. There is no use putting him on the bench and not getting him work.

Marginal pen help is nothing but more of the same. No thanks...

I voted to trade Freel also.

We're talking about a FIFTH OF and if one of the starters goes down you bring up Bruce and put him in every day...

There isn't going to be any pitching on the market to get...

So the Reds win next year as is? I thought standing pat is what everyone feared. No way the Reds are even .500 with the staff they have now and that includes the guys that earned all the frequent flier miles between Cincy and Louisville.

You have Votto, Keppinger, why go get another OF? And I agree, if needed bring Bruce up if Grif gets tweaked or Hobbs has gastroenteritis from outdated cheese on his coney.

So what is your solution? Let Dunn walk and replace him with Kyle Lohse or worse for 10 million plus? Awesome. If you pick up the option he can't be traded until June. So that window has now passed. A rotation of Harang, Arroyo, Bailey and a pen with Stormy, Burton, Bray and Majewski can contend in this division. Take out an awful May and this crappy team is right there. That's the facts weather you like them or not...

You could live without a 5th OF. I was just answering the thread question...

I agree, my point is that if we are going to sign anyone, I'll go with pen help, not a 5th OF.

I honestly think the pen will be fine without much tweaking next year. They have shown a remarkable level of improvement as the season progressed...

Not too many teams carry a 3 man starting rotation. Plus Bailey is a huge ?, Arroyo is avg at best so that leaves Harang who is very good. How old is Stormy? The wheels are bound to fall off that train sooner than later. And we have to hope the Cards and Cubs don't upgrade also. The year before they had a crappy September. So the guys currently on the roster historically tank for a month or so at a time. Why do you think that would change next year? I don't have a solution, maybe the new GM can come up with something since you and I can't:D
