Wheelersburg has a good team every year (better than usual this year) – and they are hard to beat at home. I think this will be Johnson Central’s biggest test so far this season. It has all of the makings of a good hard fought game.

I’ll take JC in a close one.

Raceland/Fairview has to be up there as well if this OUT of state opponent is the best in the area.

Wheelersburg and Johnson Central are both better than Fairview or Raceland. Out of state or not they are still in the area. Wheelersburg is a much shorter trip than any of Johnson Central's district games except for Ashland. Its not much further than Ashland either. I still say this will be the most entertaining game in the area this weekend. The Tri State area.

Central is going to do special things this year.

Whellersburg, like Ironton, normally has a 300lb fulback, and he will run dives and blast with the tailback, all inside the tackles. Occasionally, they will throw in a sweep, and pass the ball about four times a game. That was their game plan over the last several years.

That's funny you said that about Ironton and the fullbacks. Wheelersburg's fullback is Ironton's last years fullback.

I didn't know that, but like I said.......

Wheelersburgs fullback is a transfer from Ironton....... but he's hardly 300lbs. I'd say more along the lines of 175-180lbs. He is a nice powerful runner though and I think this should be a great game. I believe you'll see a huge crowd Friday night at Wheelersburg.

Good luck Eagles!

Guys, Wheelersburg is a proven team from Ohio. I am a Kentucky native and am always for KY teams. Smart pick goes to Ohio.

I stated in an earlier thread that this would be the first test for the Golden Eagles, and that it will be.

After reading the posts it seems that Wheelersburg has gone away from their Wing-T (without the wing, he's just spilt out farther, Pro if you will) offense? Maybe Wheelersburg still has some misdirection plays and passes off of them in their spread sets?

Good Luck to both Teams.

I would think that a team that went all the way to the final 4 in the state of Kentucky last year would have to be considered a "proven team" as well.

Not sure I understand your statement. Just exactly how does picking Wheelersburg make that a smart pick, just because they are from Ohio?

Not in this case.....Johnson Central has been a Juggernaut in EKY for 3 years counting now. Wheelersburg is getting ready to host a team that is good as Ironton or Portsmouth, when they have very good football Teams. The "smart pick" IMO goes to the KY team.

Why did you pick the Ohio team in the poll?

Wheelersburg still runs alot of misdirection.

This will be Johnson Centrals first game on a natural surface. Does anyone see that playing into Wheelersburg's favor? From the looks of pictures, it appears they have a pretty nice playing surface so I dont see it being that much of a problem. I mean if the offense could move on a field like Mason Co.'s last year, this should be gold.

The natural fields are still in good shape this early in the season. Unless it rains hard the playing surface shouldn't be a factor, IMO.
