Dixie 26 Simon Kenton 15

Stinks to see SK lose, but I'm still looking forward to watching them some this year.

Neerfan I'd like to go to some games, but am lacking people to go with due to peoples work and school schedules. PM me if you don't mind me joining you for a few games; I'm off on fridays and saturdays.

I didn't go to this one tonight because I thought it would be a dog. Went to the Lloyd vs Beechwood game instead. It was a very good game BTW.

Now I wish I had gone to see Dixie vs SK. Doesn't sound to me like Dixie is progressing since the NCC scrimmage much. How can that be?

Just might not have it this year!;)

Dixie is a slow starter every year (often times the early season schedule doesn't help things), however, my question is do they ever change things up? Are they any better conditioned this year? Is that the problem? If not, what causes their early season swoon?

There are two things that cause the slow start. The first, and most obvious to all is conditioning. They get tired prior to halftime. It was very evident last week, and the main reason for the loss. Last night, again it was evident by the sloppy play late, however, it wasn't nearly as bad as the Beechwood game. The second thing is Spritzky and Sorrell are still searching for the right personnel package on O and D. In years past, you would almost always see a different starting line-up in game 4 than you did in game 1. This year, he can do the same, except they need to be ready game 3, not 4.

How did Nate Ponzer do?

He didn't do a whole lot. SK didn't really try to go to him much until the second half. Then they tried to work in some quick hits to him, but the defensive ends from Dixie were reading it and deflecting the passes. However, they did use him as a pawn, when they facted the quick hit causing two Dixie db's to bite leaving the other receiver WIDE open for a 55 yard TD pass. On punt returns, Dixie's punter and coverage did a good job of not letting him do much. And on kickoffs, he wasn't even back there.

Simon Kenton made drastic improvements from last weeks game, and they played with a lot more heart. Dixie's offense struggled going up the middle, but they had no problem running to the outside of the defense. SK will be fine and will get better with every game and they will contend for the district crown. Dixie will also be fine. Maloney is a stud and he is a great kid as well.

The line still needs to finish off and theirs still to many people standing around after 1st blocks ! Hit , drive and finish ! And keep blocking until the whistle blows !

The funny thing about this statement is that we talk about this EVERY year. It's the same old story until halfway through the season. They are so used to pass blocking that when they run block, they block the same way. There's no aggression on that line. It's something that I'm sure will get fixed, but there's no reason for this to happen every year.

I did like the rotation of players going in and out !:thumb: Its still early and I know there still working on some things!:thumb:

I agree. I liked the rotation of players too. There are a lot of sophomores getting playing time, which will only help in the future too. I just wish that they would rotate on every offensive play so that the guy coming in can bring in the play instead of Spritzky waiting to see the defense and yelling from the sideline.

The biggest problem for SK last night, IMO, was that the ends and linebackers were getting sucked into the middle all night long. This allowed Dixie to run wide all night long, and SK will face some faster backs that Marty, which will hurt them more. Also, they need to get the ball in Ponzer's hands more. He needs to be in on kick returns, and they need to get him the ball in the open. He's too big of a playmaker not to have the ball in his hands more.

I don't know about that, but next week is the most important game of the year. If they beat Conner they are more than likely in the playoffs, lose and they will be spectators.

I agree with the posters saying that they need to try and get Ponzer the ball more, but I can also see why they were having a difficult time with they plays they called. The inexperienced quarterback mixed with an O-line that doesn't block consistently makes it difficult. I'd even consider running him on some sweeps and reverses. I did love the fake to him that resulted in a TD.

I have it every year, you know that.:D

Sounds to me like a coaching issue. IMO its the coaches responsibility for the team to hit the ground running. Mental and physical preparation should be on the mind of every good coach!

You can lead a horse to water too...... now coach him into taking a drink if he doesn't want to.:D

Simon Kenton Coaching Staff needs to figure out something to get more looks for Ponzer. He is there to go guy on the field at all times, and they need to have more looks to him. I would have to say that Simon improved on all ends of their game last night but the team has a long way to go... I hope next week vs conner will be better!
