August 29, 200719 yr I would urge you to try it, I enjoy any wild game much more than any domestic beef, poultry, etc.. Steps can be taken to remove what some call a "wild taste" to venison ad the like. I personally like this different taste as long as it is not too strong. Marinades and different seasoning (garlic, onion, etc.) of the meat can take care of a lot of that. Another huge plus to venison/ wild game is that it is much more healthy, there is little to no fat on it, is very lean. Full of protien with little to no fat and very good tasting - you can't go wrong :thumb: . Whenever you get the chance OldRambler, you wont want to really add any seasoning to the Elk meat. It has an awesome natural taste!
August 29, 200719 yr I've never had any kind of meat such as deer, elk, moose etc. Id try it but everytime I have an opportunity to do so I chicken out. Im afraid it would just taste "different." You have got to try it. My wife said, when we got married, that she would never eat deer. After trying it, she loves it now. Just add a little lemon juice to the marinade and you won't taste the wild taste. Much leaner, you will think that beef it to fat after eating deer.
August 30, 200719 yr What county was the photo taken in? I've seen elk as I've driven through Route 66 in Bell and Clay counties. They are awesome to see. I don't know statistically, but I would guess that Knott County probably has the biggest elk population in the state.
August 30, 200719 yr Knott County claims to be the Elk capital of the state. There are large populations growing in Knott, Letcher, Pike, and Martin Counties.

August 30, 200719 yr Id love to have one of those stuffed and mounted over my fireplace. My friend has a whole room in her house to show off her trophy elk. They had to take the window and framing out to get it in the house! I will take some pics and post next time I am over there.
