Question about Boyle County

Featured Replies

3 or 4 years ago Chuck was still the coach. Your statement about under Chuck every athlete in the school was dying to play football and that isn't the case anymore." Is False. Boyle had some great players walking the halls under Smith's years that would have started, and made a huge impact. Whitehouse and Yates come to mind right off the bat. Are there more walking the halls now, I'd say yes.

If memory serves me, I think Chuck had his leading rusher quit one year on one of the state title teams. Was it 2002?

Not everyone could handle Smith's system just like not everyone cares for Pardue's. I guess the difference has been the outcome with what is present on the field has been different. Of course it has only been 2 seasons and 1 game in the Pardue era. That isn't a lot of time to build much of anything. I'm not one to give a pass on it all but to me this season's success will determine the future of Pardue's era at Boyle because for the most part it is his team now.

I really think that anyone at all close to the program new that whom ever followed Chuck was doomed to comparison and in all likelyhood going to have a short tenure. We all knew it however, it ws impossible not to give coach Pardue an oportunity to be the head coach because he earned that right by doing a great job for chuck. The reality is that very often the coach that follows in the footsteps of another very successful one fails. I think the school system has been very supportive of this staff but unfortunately the program did not sustain itself, as expected, and it will be time to move on.

Id have to disagree. Smith the leading rusher from 2002 quit going into his senior year, and he gets replaced, and everyone moves on. The players that didnt play wouldnt have made an impact because their impact would have been negated by someone who replaced them. There is numerous examples of people being replaced by less talented and less athletically gifted players but still getting the job done. Coach Smith won the 2003 state championship with 170 lb guards and 5-foot-7 running backs. I would just have to say that Smith gets everything out of his players, regardless of talent.

...and the groudwork is layed for deja vu all over again... just add a Henry Clay loss on Friday and watch the magic happen in Rebel Country.... just like last year

I think you are speaking prematurally. Pardue's team put up a spirited effort against Bowling Green last week and i think they will do the same again this week. They had three major mental mistakes, that all lead to BG points. Eliminate those mistakes and improve. Last years team regressed, but i think this years team is determined to get better. I do think the fans are spoiled but that statement makes it seem like people are happy to see that kind of turmoil.

Well than we agree to disagree than. :thumb: I never brought up Smith. My point was that there was talent at Boyle not playing football. Where there not great players walking the hallways under Chuck's years?

I hope that's not the case. It took Coach Smith 6-7 years to turn BC into a powerhouse, I'd hope Pardue and staff get more than 3 years.

Which Smith was this ? Just wondering.

Daniel Smith ....... after he left Quinn Givhan step uped and filled his place at Runningback with the help of Danny Commarford.

I agree with everything you said. Plus, it does seem there are people that are happy to see turmoil and if there's not any, some are trying very hard to cause it.

Now I remember. There's too many Smiths to keep up with. Go Rebels, Beat HC

purplepride92, the difference being that Chuck Smith took over one of the worst programs in the state in any class. I believe they won only one or two games in the previous 3 years. Chris Pardue took over a highly successful program and was asked to maintain a high level. Note that i said maintain a High Level not win state championships! I think that Rebel fans, myself included do not have unrealistic expectations but do expect the team to be competitive every friday night play Rebel Football which is very disciplined and physical and go until the whistle blows. It was mentioned by soneone that Boyle was competitive with BG until they had 3 turnovers. Chuck called those mental mistakes and were usually rare when he coached. I want to add that I do not believe all the problems are Chris Pardues I think some of the Assistant Coaches have hurt the program both in their coaching style and in their off field behavior. If and When Chris leaves I fully expect assitant coach(s) to be shown the door. IMO

Boyle County has a very tough schedule. That will impact the won-loss record. They are still very good.

Alot of times in athletics, people become disgruntled with coaches and want a change. Much of the time, that change doesn't turn out the way people want. And, they look back and think, I wish we had those other guys back. Boyle has a very good staff. If my child were at Boyle County, I would do everything I could to make sure those guys know we want them there and we realize the quality of our staff.

When I was fortunate to coach the all star game, and could pick any coach in the state to run our offense, I picked Coach Pardue. I guess it was a good call- 3 other coaches did the same that I did(Perry Thomas, Chuck Smith, Joey Downs).

Coach Smith is a great coach and a great friend. But, I doubt anyone will win 5 state titles in a row again.

I have two sons and I would love for them to be coached by Chris Pardue, Chris Mason, Chris LeMonds, and Jeff Hester. That would be a blessing. They are very good men and outstanding coaches.

Good luck to the Rebels!

People forget that Chris Pardue was a big reason that Boyle won the 5 state championships that they won. Chuck will tell you that he trusted Chris completely with the offensive game plan and regarded Chris as a co-head coach in many regards. I have coached with Chris and his knowledge of offensive football, game planning, and ability to make game adjustments is as good as anyone in the state. Boyle had some great talent come through in those five years, but I also think that Chris' offensive system contributed to their accomplishments.

Of course Chuck Smith is missed. Any program in the state would miss a coach of Chuck's caliber. That's why I'd be surprised if he's not in the Kentucky high school football hall of fame one day as a coach. No one else has won five state championships in a row.

Outside of the Louisville 6A privates, I don't know of anyone in the state who would want to trade schedules with Boyle. Boyle is in the unfortunate situation that only the in-state powers want to schedule them. There are no out-of-district cupcakes on their schedule.

Coach Pardue and company are doing a great job of turning boys to men...the W/L colum (especially with the BRUTAL schedule) is truely over rated. If someone could show me that the current staff is leading youngmen down a path of poor decisions then this discussion would be valid.

Coach Pardue and company suffered through a poor season (BC standards), yet went to the 2nd round...and held a ship together that had several rats aboard. I do not think the current admin is supporting the staff they way they should...if so this discussion and rumors about winning big would not be happening and there would not have been a "meeting" last year.

Coach Pardue and company are great men, teachers, leaders, fathers, and coaches.

Witch hunts are over rated!
