The punter is senior Johnny Pabst, who plays linebacker and also punted well last year. The kicker is Junior Chris Grosser, soccer kid playing his first year of football. All of his kickoffs were to the goaline except one or two inside the 5. He also made field goals of 37 and 25 yards (if I remember correctly), and was 5/5 on PAT's. He looked a little rusty at the Dixie scrimmage, but as to be expected when going from a round ball to a pointy ball. :lol:

On one of the NC kickoffs, the Simon Kenton player gaught the ball at the one yard line but his momentum carried him into the end zone. The receiver looked at the official and he signaled to start the clock. I thought once the ball crossed the end line it was a touchback. Can anyone clear this for me?

There are multiple Chris Grossers at NCC. Is this the one from St. Thomas? If so, he would make a great wide out! In FTJFL he and Kues were a formidable passing combo for the Greenies! And congrats to Robbie Kues for a FABULOUS DEBUT!

In simple terms, if the kick itself crosses the goal line it's a touchback. But if a player catches a kick in the field of play and then steps into his own endzone the ball is still live.

This is the one who went to St. Thomas. He's an incredible athlete on the soccer field and the baseball diamond. He also came up and a made a tackle on one of his kickoffs that wasn't bouncing through the back of the endzone.

I know it is early, but I am very impressed with Rob Kues. Not only is he a quality young man, but he is a developing into a very impressive QB.

 

I attended two scrimmages with moderate expectations, relative to his arm strength and accuracy. WOW!! Rob has a very strong arm and is very accurate.

 

My son, who has caught balls (in games and in workouts) from two of NCC's greatest QB's (Diehl and Smith) says Rob is the real deal!! Wait until Rob starts running the ball!!

 

The Breds have a lot of talent (again) this year. They are likely to have their ups and downs early in the season, but come the stretch run and the playoff drive Coach Schneider and his staff will have them right where they want them.

One of the only bright spots for the Pioneers was the one offensive drive, featured by an amazing catch by Ponzer and some solid running by Simpson, Bustle, Wilson, and DeWalt. Also, though the score doesn't show it, the defense didn't really play that bad and at times looked really good.

 

As for NCC, couldn't have started the year off on a better note. The defense looked good, the offense looked good, and the special teams looked good. Don't know what else you could ask for.

Simon Kenton better tie up the loose ends, having to host Dixie this upcoming week should be just as challenging.
