August 22, 200719 yr I was just checking out the roster for 2008 and it appears that several more players have decided not to play for Coach Hagen including several contributors from the past 2 years. (Compton and the Apro brothers just to mention a few) Georgetown in itself is not for everyone, but there seems to be a consistant pattern for large turnover each year in the Baseball program.
August 23, 200719 yr I know for a fact that Coach Hagens is a very demanding coach. He demands RESPECT first and foremost of his players. He expects them to be respectfull to everyone they come in touch withwhether it be a minister, parent, teacher, or other students. There are a lot of kids that can't take a hard nosed coach and give respect. I can almost bet he isn't worried about it. He will just replace them with players who will give the respect that is required. My son(9yrs old) attended camp there this summer and the first words out of his mouth to the kids is you will respect the coaches and myself. Everytime you are talked to it will be yes sir and no sir. I have the utmost respect for this man and his values and morals he instills in kids.
August 23, 200719 yr As with many programs, rosters will change for various reasons. Coach Hagen and staff, are doing a solid job.
August 23, 200719 yr Topper - did you or a family member play for Georgetown at one time? THis is obviously a hot button with you as you've commented many times over the last 2+ years on the coach. It seems personal.

THis is obviously a hot button with you as you've commented many times over the last 2+ years on the coach. It seems personal. Nothing personal at all. It just seems to me that there is a higher than usual turnover rate. Just trying to get the real story. I have met Hagen and was impressed with him personally. I follow Mid South Baseball and have attended several games over the past 6 or 7 years. However, the intensity in the Mid South still will never match the intensity of High School baseball.

I would think that a sport like baseball where there is not a lot of scholarship money to offset the very high costs of a private school would be a likely candidate for high attrition.

That is true, but there is actually more scholorships for NAIA schools than there are at NCAA D1 schools. Hagan does a good job of bringing kids in, but he may be losing kids because of unkept promises...I don't know, just assuming. On the other hand Coach Shelton has done a good job of bringing in great talent year after year and keeping them. Personally I believe that both of these coaches are great for the MSC and NAIA baseball.

Many of them are not getting much, if any, money. Add in that he's very intense/demanding and I can see kids leaving. I'm curious to see if he will continue recruiting Beechwood kids since the last 3 have quit/left the team.
August 23, 200719 yr I'm curious to see if he will continue recruiting Beechwood kids since the last 3 have quit/left the team. To be clear, the above is not a shot at Beechwood or the players. Its simply a question of the coach's view on the ability of the boys from Ft Mitchell to handle his style.
August 23, 200719 yr I have heard that his academic qualifications as a coach are very low and he views passing whether you have an A+ or just one point above failing. Personally, I find something very wrong with that if a coaches academic standards with the players aren't placed very high on the totem pole, JMO.

He was one of the Mid South's best pitchers prior to his injury last year. The pitching staff really took a hit losing Slusher, Compton and Apro, not to mention the other pitchers who quit during the season last year.

I actually forgot about him.

How many college coaches sit a kid down if he's eligible by school or NCAA standards?
August 24, 200719 yr How many college coaches sit a kid down if he's eligible by school or NCAA standards? What I'm just trying to say is that he doesn't hold academics very high for the players because most of them most likely won't continue there baseball careers after college.
