What about Robbie Barber at Rose Hill....isn't he an incoming freshman and will he see significant minutes on the varsity level?

If he's the same dark haired point guard I remember at the 7th grade state tournamemt in Louisville in 2005 he can shoot the lights out. Rose Hill beat a good Whitley County team for the championship. The big blond Ooton kid the quick Johnson or Jackson kid and strong Bear kid were tough to handle inside, and when Whitleys D collapsed on them, the Barber kid lit 'em up from outside. I saw the same kid at a Nike tournament the next summer in Henderson, playing with an AAU team from Lexington. I talked to his dad there, and learned he's a grade behind Ooton and the other boys. I only got to see the first half of their game against a good team from Chicago. He hit something like 7 threes in the first half, and when they got in his face he drove it inside and scored or dished it off. He's a handfull.

Robbie was injured most all of last season and it slowed his development. However, he has a lot of potential and, if he can remain healthy, he will be a big contributor for the next four years. He, like Malloy, is a fine young man and, as Zoolander has stated, he can fill up the basket from long range.

Mason County has three studs in this class in Jordan Gilbert,Neal pawsat and Treg Setty.With Setty being the best of the three probally hes the younger brother of trevor Setty hes about 6'4-6'5 .This actually may be the best Freshman team to every come through Mason beofre its said and done as they are loaded.

 

GRC has 6 Freshman that all are around 6'2 to 6'3 and still growing....some are saying the best class to come out of GRC. Robbie Stenzel is part of this class. Looks like the 10th region has some great battles in the years to come.:thumb:

Timmy Knipp from Elliott has good skills, and apparently found his grow button. Last I saw him he was a legit 6’ 5” and I hear he’s still growing. If he ever fills out, he’ll be a beast. Another good family, and basketball community.

 

Neal Pawsat from Mason Co. is a determined scrapper, he can shoot but isn’t afraid to mix it up in the paint. His older brother played about four inches taller than his actual height last season for Mason. Good family and basketball community.

 

Jordan Gilbert from Mason Co. has solid fundamentals all around and a good head for the game. Yet another good family in an All-American community.

 

I have to wonder if Josh Hopkins is one of the 6‘ 5“ to 6‘ 7“ dunking freshman being mentioned in Corbin. He was 6’ 3” last I saw him a year ago. Great kid and family.

 

Robbie Barber at the Hill has solid skills in every area of the game with great court vision. As a combo guard, his greatest asset may be his head for the game. He just passed 6 feet and may not top out for another four or five inches.

 

Alex Malloy at the Hill has been hitting the weights and is getting ripped for a Frosh. Al is another versatile player capable of playing three positions.

 

Marcellus Barksdale and Ryan Fucci from Tates Creek are both stars in the making. Otis Webb from Lexington is another amazing athlete.

 

I'm sure I'll think of more, and there are lots of late bloomers who will come on strong between now and 2011 that could displace some of the names on this list. Until then, a coach could take these ten and compete well nationally. :thumb:

Josh is the 6'5" freshman at Corbin that he is referring to. The 6'7" kid has been home schooled and is in his first year in the Corbin system. I have heard that he has very little playing experience........but he is a 6'7" freshman, so he may have some potential.

Hopefully the new kid will be able to pick up some skills quickly and allow CHS to have 2 big men on the floor alot. This should help the rebounding and defense alot. The new kid will really help balance out the Freshman team as they were loaded with guards.

Sounds like if you can teach him to spread out in the paint on the defensive end, pull down a few rebounds and throw a good outlet pass, you can let Hopkins and the guards rumble. Could be a fun season for you guys. :thumb:

Good list and I'd add

 

the King twins from Deming and Treg Setty from Mason Co.

I like the King twins and think they'll be the players to watch for Deming this year. Unfortunately, Deming will have a thin bench, so these two may have do much more than they are capable being only Freshmen. They played well and were key in many of Deming's wins last year as 8th graders.

^I would also add Jonathen Caldwell to the list from Deming.

I believe Tony Kimbro Jr. from Louisville is a freshman, if so, he will be one of the top 2011's in the state. I've seen him play several times and have been hearing good things about him.

 

The 16th region will have a couple of Rose Hill freshmen make a huge impact on the way the teams focus on stopping Euton and Jackson....

Robbie Barber has grown and can shoot "lights out", the defense can't leave him alone too long or he will have a field day. Even though Alex Malloy hasn't grown much over the past year, he has the body of a senior (muscle wise not weight). This kid is "ripped", he is quick on defense and can slash to the basket. If these two freshmen play to their potential, I believe there could be a new "King of the Hill" in the 16th Region. Pardon my pun!

The big kid from Rockcastle Co should be a good one. He is a solid player. He will be a key player.

Its conceivable that Corbin could have a Freshman/JV line up of some tall timber this fall. 6'7" Kimball, 6'6" John new kid, 6"5" Hopkins,6'4" Stewart, Craig 6'4" + some little but quick guards. Coach McDaniel will have them ready. 1 or 2 of the above may even make the varsity squad if they demonstrate early on that they can help the team.
