2007/2008 June Buchanan

What does June Buchanan need to do to improve in 2007/2008? What do they need to keep doing to be successful? Remember, please be constructive.

The thing they need to do is play together. If they let Tate Cox run the point and let Clark and Clint Stepp play the wings, they will have 3 of the best guards around. One of them handle the ball and get it where it needs to go and can score when he is open (Tate), and then one that can fill it up with the best of them as seen this summer all over the county (Clint), and the other can penatrate and get in the lane anytime he wants too for the 5-10 foot shot or draw a foul and shoot free throws the whole game (Clark). They also have 2 pretty good big men that need to be used this year if they want to do anything at the state tourney. Garrison Collins and Trey Short have been working their butts off to get better in the post and now they just need to get some touches, which is pretty hard to do with a 3 guard driven team, but if they can find them some touches they are both getting better finishing their shots in the paint and can rebound with anyone. But the most important thing they need to do is what I mentioned first, play together.

Yes, playing together is the key to winning. It is a team sport 1 , 2 or 3 cannot win ballgames.

June B. should be pretty good again this year.

June Buchanan is the most likely pick of most to repeat as champions of the 14th region, but Hazard and Breathitt will be nipping at their heels.

JBS will be everybodys pick to repeat as 14th region champs. I also think that Hazard and Breathitt will challenge, but do not forget about Buckhorn

Why would you put your best dribble/penetrator on the wing and one of your best shooters at the point? Clark will play the point, kick to the shooters, or dump it in to the big guy, they got the recipe for about a 28 win season, look for Clint to lead the state in 3 pointers made, Clark to lead the state in assists and Cox to average about 16 a game plus the big guys, they are going to be a hard team to handle, Class A tournament could be special this year if you add JBS and Paintsville and Elliot/Rose Hill to the field

Would be worth the trip

I'll have to agree with Master of the Hardwood. Very good break down of the team. How will bench play factor in down the stretch? After Hall what do they have?

Read the "Everything a Rookie" thread and it will answer, any questions.

Why put Tate their? Well Clark won't dump it down to the big guy for one, and for two, after his brother hits a couple 3's he won't pass it too him either. Jealousy comes out when someone else does better than him from what I have seen so far. He would rather take a bad shot than to give it up to someone else. When Tate is there running the point, whoever is open will get the ball, and if no one else is open, that is when he takes his open shot and gets his 15-20 pts a game. He is a true point guard that looks for everyone else before himself. Clark will be a better slasher penetrator from the wing and will be able to run their clear out or pick and roll from the wing a lot better than if he was on the point. I'm sure they will share this roll just like they did last year, and they will be a hard team to stop with 3 good guards and 2 good big men. Like someone else has posted, the only thing they won't have is depth, but by playing a tight zone and not allowing anyone in the lane and making them beat you from the outside and running when they get the ball on offense, as long as they can stay out of foul trouble, they really don't need that much depth. If they can stay away from the big injury and out of foul trouble, I don't see anyone beating them in the 14th this year. Should be a great All A tourney!:dancingpa

You don't know the Clark Stepp I know, there is not a jealous bone in the kid!

Does he sometimes try to do too much? Yes, but so did Matt Walls and Stephon Pettigrew last year, and it was called "will to win"

If you spent any time at all with Clark, you would realize how focused he is and his "will to win"

He will realize that he has a lot of help on this years jbs team, and while he will still probally be the leading scorer, I look for jbs to have 4 kids average in double figures this year, and that is not selfish play

JBS has a fairly weak schedule. Yeah I know, they play Lexinton Catholic & they play in the 5/3, but other than that it looks pretty weak for the best team in the region. I know other 14th region schools don't have tough schedule either but still.

Also Hazard is pretty disappointing in the schedule department to considering they are the 2nds best (close 1st) team in the region.

Who will be those four?

The 4 they would be referring to are: 1)Clark Stepp 2)Tate Cox 3)Clint Stepp 4)Garrison Collins (if Tate is at the point and gets the ball inside to him)
