I would like to see a small public school take the honors.:dancingpa

It would be a delight to see the fans at Rupp get behind a group like Elliott County, Corbin or Cumberland at the Sweet 16 and hear Rupp Arena roar again like it did when Carlisle County, Breckinridge, Paintsville and Clay County did back in the day.

I thought it was pretty amazing that Mason County was able to win the summer tournament in Frankfort (without) Darius Miller. That is a pretty big statement and could make them the team to beat in the state. Scott County appears to be beatable this year, but still very strong and probably preseason #1. There will be some mountain teams this year that will be able to compete at a very high level and could make some noise at Rupp Arena in March. Cumberland and June Buchanan will represent All A schools very well and could be strong enough to make some very legitimate noise in March

I agree Mason just has a bunch of kids King,Miller,Setty,Tolle,Middelton,Downing that have played together since the third grade and have always been winners, they will compete for the state title because they like each other and just know how to play the game,Scott county is the only team that has given them trouble over the years.Mason by the way is not a large school with just 800 plus students.

I would add Male to this list ...

Breathitt should have a pretty strong team next year. JBS and Breathitt this year are going to have some games that come down to the wire. Both could have a chance to make some noise.

These are two of the best teams in the mountains, along with Shelby Valley, Corbin, Cumberland, Elliott County...among others. But I have a hard time seeing any of them as a top 20 state team. There's probably 20 teams from Fayette and Jefferson Counties alone that would be rated above any team from what is considered the mountains, the 13th, 14th, 15th, and 16th regions.

Do not think I would go that far maybe 10 or 11 that could be rated above one or two of the teams that you mentioned. Then maybe 15-20 that could be rated ahead of the others but not 20 that would rated above all of them.

Maybe so, but I was only using two counties as a measuring stick vs. a possible legit top 20 mountain team. There's also a bunch of other counties to consider as well, such as Daviess, Warren, Christian, etc. IMO it will be difficult for a mountain team to be a realistic top 20 state team, although a few may crack the top 20 because it's a statewide media vote and some may get a loyalty based vote.

Don't get me wrong, I am a 100% mountain supporter. But I'm also realistic.

Agreed!

Appears to be more wide open than in the past few years.
