CBC - Stop all the guards for awhile

Green may have not been the best, but then again was the floor general for 2 nat'l titles...you also can't deny him that.

And I don't. He was a very good NCAA PG. Do you deny the fact that the strength of the Gators was Noah, Horford and Brewer???

Of course not. Like them or not, they had a special team, all around.

Bingo. Special teams with a complete roster win titles. Great guards are only part of the equation... :thumb:

There is no denying UK needs big men....and soon.

Patterson will start from day 1 but may stay 1 year, or 4 years depending on his play and his momma whispering in his ear.

There are four projects in Stevenson, Carter, Mark Coury, and Mike Williams. AJ Stewart and Ramon Harris may have to play out of position at the 4.

If Billy can't land some big men then we may see a return of Rupp's Runts. I think this is becoming an obvious issue....

I also think a lot of the big men targets were a lot farther along in their recruitment when Gillispie took over. They are targeted the earliest in this day and age, and you don't see the fluctuation in performance that you see in the perimeter players. Simple supply and demand...

Which makes perfect sense after a team controlled by two bigs and a wing won the last two titles...

Florida wasn't CONTROLLED by the 2 bigs and their great wing. They were controlled by Greene. And part of the reason for Horford and Noah's success was the fact that Lee Humphrey was just waiting out behind the 3 point line to knock down the open jumper as soon as his man left to double down low. It doesn't do much good to have a great big man down low if you don't have a set of guards that know how to play the game and get them the ball!:flame:

So, in theory, there were a bunch of teams that were only Greene and Humphrey away from winning a title? TWO titles? Would you take them over Collison and Afflalo? I would contend that for two years in a row UCLA had better guards but were a lot worse on the inside. There are numerous backcourt tandems that would have won big in the tournament playing with Horford, Noah and Brewer...

Big guys win championships bottom line end of story.

The last four title winners agree...

That goes for the NBA too.

Not true. Just look at Steve Nash...wait..... ;)

Have to disagree with you. Do you really think that you could have put Ramel Bradley and Joe Crawford on that Florida team and won the title? Not a chance. And in a game of 2 on 2, I would take the UCLA guards over Florida's any day. But thats not how the game is played in COLLEGE basketball. The Florida guards fit the roll of playmaker/leader and outside threat for their team. That Florida team was great through their top 6 players. And quite frankly, in the championship game, Greg Oden made the Florida bigs look like bums. Brewer, Greene, and Humphreys won the game. Shaq and Tim Duncan didn't win a NCAA ring and they dominated the game back then, just like they have in the NBA. Its the difference in the dynamic of the game.

Based on your theory Mike Conley also made Green look "like a bum" in the title game. It takes a complete roster, not just "great guards win titles". Got it???

It does take a complete roster. I'm not arguing that. And Conley didn't make Green look like a bum. He may have outscored him, but anybody who knows anything at all about basketball knows that is a very small part of what it takes to WIN. We are going to keep disagreeing on this so there is no point in it to go any further...:thumb:
