Anybody know whatever happened to Danny Jett Jr. from Deming? I remember seeing him score his thousandth point his junior year and continued racking them up his senior year, then he just vanished, I think he even quit the team.

Your right Danny Jr. quit the team his senior year for some unknown reason. When he was playing he was the best there was(maybe better then Danny Sr.).

A lot of boys can shoot the threes but thats all they can do. There are players and there are shooters and when a kid can do both ,he's tough. I've seen good three point shooters that couldn't play a lick. The three point shot has taken away from the game in that kids don't learn how to move with the ball,or without the ball .They don't learn how to create and make things happen. A lot of young kids get the concept that the three looks good, scores you more points(without working or thinking) and they forget to learn how to play the game.

That's how it used to be when I was in school, who ever worked hard down low or drove to the inside was by ideal the best player. Pendleton County's Talbert Turner could've scored 50 pts. a game if the 3 point rule was there in the games back in 1980's.

True. With the three point line Talbert probably would have scored 100-200 more points in high school. He ended up with 3,100+.

Harrison County-Brown, Franklin, Jenkins and Case are the shooters.

There was some kid that played at mason county who may be the states all time best shooter. What was his name? Lofton or something like that? LOL Come on chris lofton has to be mentioned as mason countys all time best 3 point shooter.

Chris Lofton is definitely up near the top, however I personally would not put him above Ronnie Lyons.

Both Lyons and Lofton, were close to the same height. Lofton was heavier in weight.

 

Lyons was 2nd team All-SEC (UPI) and 3rd team (AP), at UK in '71'-72. Lyons' shot 44.5%, 41.9% and 46.8% in FG and 87.5%, 77.8% and 82.4% in FT's, while at UK.

 

Lofton is 48.1%, 46.6% and 47.9% in FG. His 3's are 46.5%, 43.7% and 41.9%. His FT's are 85.4%, 91.7% and 81.1%. He's also developed a reputation, as one of the best pure shooters in the country, not just SEC. The 3pt arc, has certainly changed the game, from '70's.

 

Both were good, different eras.

Best shooter I ever seen, also Johnny Barbour another top notch long range shooter at Tollesboro, I believe he graduated in '93. Also the Caudill boys Carter and David.

At St. Patrick I would have to give props to Jay Gast. He made a lot of outside shots before there was a three point goal and still averaged about 30 points a game, if I remember correctly.

Chris Harrison is up near the top or on top in various categories related to scoring during his tenure at Tollesboro High. Most of us would be if we were given the green light as many times as he had it. He would jack it up from the concession stand if possible. Not taking anything aways from Chris Harrison, the guy could flat out light it up, but he wouldn't of had to carry so much of the load if other players out on the court with him had the opportunity to score. There was a couple of talented players by the name of Spence and Marshall that would have reduced the load off Harrisons shoulders if they had a few more touches with the ball. 1-5 on the 91 Tollesboro team in my opinion was the not the best Tollesboro team, back in the 80's, there was a darn good Wildcat team.
