I have watched Elliott County for the last 7 years and I have never seen any of the stuff that is being said. All I have seen are a bunch of young kids that love to play basketball, give 110%, and win. Its true that they are an 80/20 team in terms of offense/defense, but that plan seemed to work pretty well last season. Also, when they are in a defensive battle, they seem to do just fine. Had the Knipp kid been able to walk in the 2nd round of the Sweet Sixteen, they might've been in the final four of the state - with a bunch of sophomores and 8th graders.

 

The only thing I will agree with is that a few of the players talk to the officials during the games, but that's usually because the other teams are much bigger and much more physical and try to beat the small players to death down low.

I am a 16th region fan and really enjoy watching Elliott Co. play but their defense is non existent at times and I do not know about the players being selfish, but a lot of their fans seem to think some of their players are selfish.

Often happens to teams, with multiple levels of talent. Post player wants the ball, Guards are looking to maintain and Perimeter shooters, are working to get open.

 

Players often handle it better, than parents do. Each of these teams mentioned, had very good past seasons and again, will be a force in their respective Regions.

 

I heard a comment once, which went something like this...."If somebody isn't complaining about playing time, teammates, coaches or schedule, we're probably not any good, anyway"....

RA09 please reponde about their attitude since you know this team then you have not seen the officials getting onto the players or hear the constant trash being talked or the father of 1 player being threatened to be removed at almost every gym they play in?

 

You see things that not many people see. I hardly ever see an offical get onto one of the players. Or any of the player talk trash. I am not going to say it never happens because this stuff sometimes does take place with all teams, not just Elliott Co. About the parents. I can't think of one game that a players parent got ejected from the game. But what does that have anything to do with the players. Talk to the newspaper people, ask the radio guys, even asks the officals that you talk about and I would bet that they all say the kids play as hard as any team in the region and play very unselfish. And above all of these things I guarentee you that they say the players are class acts.

Without a doubt Elliot is one of the best teams this region has seen in awhile, I really enjoy watching them play,and I have talked to many area school families,officials and fans who believe the same way I do. All the kids need to do is play the game an all 1 father needs to do is to keep his loud opinions to himself

I also wanted to add this. Elliott County is veiwed as an offense team because they score alot of points, but in order for them to score a high number of points they must create alot of possesions for themselves or they couldnt do it. How do they get those extra possesions? They create them with thier defense. They get steals and cause turnovers which allows them to score points. You can't just be an offense team and win the number of games they won, plus a district and regional title. Their team this year was solid on defense, espically through tournament time.

But yet you keep bashing them in this thread and other threads.

Just cause they are talking to a ref during the course of the game does not mean they are complaining.

This past week while we were in Pikeville I saw the 2 other teams play .They looked very good in all respects.

Most of us Elliott Co fans know who you are referring to. He is a very good friend of mine!! I am also very good friends with his son!! I have talked to his son on more than one occasion and asked him if it bothered him when his dad was hollering at the ref's. He said"quote" I rarely hear him but when I do it don't bother me. He is my number one fan, he helped me become the player I am today!"quote"

springstump#1 is talking about. As for Jonathan not enjoying playing, you need to step back and refocus!! He has been a constant pain about going to the gym ever since he was 11 years old. I have went to the gym with him(after getting off work at 8:00pm) thousands of times. He now is allowed to drive on his own, but he still want's daddy(that's me:D )to go all the time. I try to get him to take a break but he won't BECAUSE HE LOVE'S THE GAME, AND LOVES PLAYING! Now if you want to accuse me of being loud have at it because I am. But you shouldn't accuse me of causing Jonathan not to enjoy

playing because he thoroughly enjoys it. If you don't believe me ask him. He say's there is one thing that rates above playing basketball, and thats jesus!

I have never had a problem or you could say I have always had a problem telling people what I think. There is noone who cheer's harder or near as hard for Elliott than I do. Lot's of times I get caught up in the game and start chewing out the ref's. My wife video's every game and I hear lot's of people saying stuff to the ref's and other player's on thevideo only difference in me and them is they dont say it loud enough for the crowd to hear.
