Is Iraq exporting oil at this time? I've not been able to find any mention of this and I'm aware that the pipelines are continually under attack.

Why is it foolish to question the motivation? We now know that we were only shown the intelligence conclusions regarding WMD that supported invading. We now know that the heavily played-up linkage between Saddam Hussein's Iraq and September 11 was based on disputed and extremely fragile claims that have since been thoroughly discredited. We now know that the Administration was warned months prior to invading that a destabilized Iraq could very easily spiral into a chaotic breeding ground for terrorists. And for some reason, a President who claimed to staunchly oppose nation-building before he was elected has now been trying (unsuccessfully) to nation-build for 4+ years.

That's fine, but that quote was made in September 2003, about 6 months after the President started the war. The linkage between Saddam and 9/11 was strongly suggested by Dick Cheney numerous times until shortly before the start of the war, in spite of substantial doubts cast on that claim by FBI and CIA analysts.

 

Dec 9, 2001 on Meet the Press,

 

Cheney: "it's been pretty well confirmed that he (Mohammed Atta) did go to Prague and he did meet with a senior official of the Iraqi intelligence service in Czechoslovakia last April, several months before the attack."

 

 

March 24, 2002 to NBC,

 

Cheney: "We discovered . . . the allegation that one of the lead hijackers, Mohamed Atta, had, in fact, met with Iraqi intelligence in Prague."

 

 

In April 2002, FBI Director Robert Mueller was quoted as saying,

 

"We ran down literally hundreds of thousands of leads and checked every record we could get our hands on, from flight reservations to car rentals to bank accounts." and could find no evidence that Atta left or returned to the United States during the disputed period when he supposedly met with Iraqi intelligence in Czechoslovakia.

 

 

In spite of Mueller's remarks, Sept 8, 2002 on Meet the Press,

 

Cheney: (Atta) "did apparently travel to Prague. . . . We have reporting that places him in Prague with a senior Iraqi intelligence officer a few months before the attacks on the World Trade Center."

 

 

So even after CIA and FBI investigators concluded that there was no substantiating evidence of a meeting in Prague between Atta and Iraqi intelligence, Dick Cheney continued to insinuate a causal connection between Iraq and 9/11 on high visibility news programs.

Its a good thing all of this 24 hour reporting wasn't around on D Day. If we had had mSNBC, etc. back then we would have all been speaking German. I'll bet Hitler and his successors would have been a little less tolerant of all this "free" speech, don't you think?

We did not start this war , but it is no accident that since we have been in Iraq there has been no further attacks in the USA. We taking the fight to the enemy instead of sitting here and waiting for them to strike again. They are using all of there resources to fight us in the middle east.

I am a former United States Marine and I just want to say one thing. Leaders start wars and soldiers fight them. It has been that way from the beginning and it will always be that way.

 

When a war starts and soldiers go isto the battle they don't fight for the reason that the leaders started the war, they fight for each other.

 

I only ask this of every American, as you may disagree with the reason we are fighting this war or even war itself, support our soldiers as they lay down their lives for each other and the idea of freedom that we all have a tendency to take for granted. Our country wouldn't be what it is today if americans hadn't fought and died to make it this way.

The terrorists know that the US does not have the "guts" to stick to the war because of our liberally minded media and all of our war protests. War is not always the solution, but I believe that our President knows that if we just give up then we have done all of this for absolutely nothing. All of our "long term" plans are only 4 year plans and that is all because of elections. Don't you think the terrorists know this?? Just look at the past history of what we have done when the terrorist use crude suicide bomber tactics...we pull out..we can not do that everytime, and the President and his staff realize this.
