Sources: Billy Donovan to be banned from coaching NBA

There was a comment made that people were "tugging" at Billy once he left for Orlando.

From what I understand, maybe Hearsay can shed some light, intentional interference with business relations and contractual relations are both actionable torts which can include compensatory and punitive damages.

Obviously, both sides have gathered their legal teams...UF isn't chirping as much as they were before. Foley, Meachum and other boosters could be pulled into this. Possibly the boosters could be the one to foot the bill.

Not saying this is taking place but obviously the Magic are not going to lay down and I wouldn't if I were them...because they are the ones with the most to lose.

It could be "free" money for the Magic. They have'nt paid anything upfront that I know of, they know everything is legal on their end, and they can see what Billy is worth to the Gator boosters to get out of the Contract. 3 or 4 Million could go toward a new coach or player, and that would not actually be coming out of your pocket. New coach (who wants the job). Free money. I'd definitely hold Little Billy's feet to the fire on this one.

I just thank God that his indecisive butt is in Florida and not Kentucky. And him whinning that the Magic forced him into a decision; I doubt that crosses his mind when he does the same thing to a recruit.

It wouldn't be very easy to prove, though. If it were, I feel very confident in saying that the Atlanta Falcons would have had their feet held to the fire, because I know for a fact that they were in talks with Petrino before they had permission.

Again, I will reiterate - never trust a college basketball coach, not even after they've signed a binding contract...

No it would not be easy to prove, but it would force a long court battle.

I seriously doubt either party wants that, but the Magic have been wronged and you cant fault them for wanting someone's hide.

There is an important limitation to the use of this tort as a remedy for the disruption of contractual relationships. It can only be asserted against a stranger to the relationship.

One contracting party owes no general tort duty to another not to interfere with performance of the contract; its duty is simply to perform the contract according to its terms. The tort duty not to interfere with the contract falls only on strangers -- interlopers who have no legitimate interest in the scope or course of the contract's performance.
