Dixie 2 Highlands 1

Featured Replies

Nichols went 0 for 1 with 3 walks so while he did not hit us to victory he did however pitch us to one! We knew with Nichols we would take the first game. Good luck tonight, lets hope for the same outcome!

You are correct but he did get on three times in the game, and if I am not mistaken, Dixie had what 3/4 hits total. So Nichols to me was on the bases more that any other Dixie player was all day. He is without a doubt Dixie best player.....an outstanding pitcher....

If he is a good ball player, he must be related to Shane. (couldn't resist.)

BTW: Has anyone heard the total attendance for the day... The crowd by the end of the Dixie/HHS game and prior to the CovCath/Boone game to me at least seemed very, very large by high school standards. With another beautiful night weather wise coming up tonight and with Beechwood vs. Ryle (a rematch of last years final) and the Blue and Red Colonels playing against each other, I look for even a better crowd tonight....

Good luck to all the teams.....

Your preaching to the choir here,I know Nichols is a great player. I think one of the best pitchers in Northern Kentucky. I am just sorry he can not pitch again tonight as well. I know you need good pitching to win and we are not as deep as CC. Our boy's do have alot of heart and some good Senior leadership so lets go out and win us a game boy's!!......................GOOD LUCK!!!

I agree g pops. Shane needs to taks his batbag to Wake Forest.

Brad Popham is Dixie's 8th grade Catcher.

I always thought Dixie was strictly high school. What grades do they have up there now? That's pretty impressive for an eighth grader to play at a school that large. Congratulations to them on a great game.

Dixie is 9 through 12. They also play 8th graders on all 3 levels.

Popham started the year on the FROSH team.

How is that done? Do they have particular middle schools that must go to Dixie? What happens if an eighth grader wants to attend another high school? I'm just not familiar with the process in Kenton Co. Thanks.

The 8th grader must go to the high school in his district where he lives. There is no gray area on this so if the school disrict lines move and you want your kid to go to that high school you would have to move.

What if he decieded he wanted to go to Cov Cath? He would have to sit out a year.

Not true today. Nothing has been passed yet to include 8th graders. He is free to go to CCH (and we'll take him) without any sit.

Of course, that Maile kid might be a problem for him for a few years.

Thanks to all! That's still so impressive playing at that age for a large school.

Even though he played varsity baseball?

Even though he played varsity baseball?

Correct. As of today, varsity participation only comes into play when changing schools from the 9th grade on.

Turkeyfoot Middle School is Dixie's direct feeder school. Dixie always has a couple 8th graders that play at the Freshman or JV level. 9 times out of 10, they are either a pitcher or catcher.
