Congrats to Beechwood .Minus an outfielder this will be the same lineup on the field next year .Great job guys .

After the rain delay, I thought that Newport came out flat and the two runs that Beechwood scored right away seemed to kill what little energy they may have had.

Key moment in the game was when Newport had bases loaded and no outs (not sure the inning or the score) but the Newport hitter hit a line drive that the short stop made a nice leaping catch on and doubled the runner off second. They got out of the inning with no runs scoring and seemed to cruise to the victory from there. Had that ball been a little higher the game could have been a little more interesting. But it wasn't and congrats to the Tigers on advancing!

That was a great and timely play for the Tigers. Adam Gohs was the SS .:thumb:

It was in the bottom of the second inning and you are correct, if that ball is a foot higher or wider this game is a completely different ballgame. Beechwood didn't look sharp to me today, and seemed to sleep walk through this game. The Newport third baseman had a rough day, as he had to have two or three throwing errors on rather routine plays. Beechwood won the game today, but if they except to beat Ryle tomorrow, they will really need to step it up a couple of notches...

I watched from the 3rd inning on and I thought Beechwood played solid. Nothing flashy, but good enough to win.

and Beechwood had two runners called out at the plate! Oldguy is right, BHS was sleep walking and had several opportunities to score and break the game open but did not capitalize. Tomorrow, hopefully will be different w/Elliott pitching.

I will be interested to see the starting line-up, young or youngest?

I thought that the pitcher for Newport did a good job for most of the game. If I understand, he is a young pitcher who pitching in his first regional game at Champion Window Field against last year's state runner-up (albeit an entirely new look runner-up) did a great job of keeping his composure and seemed to keep Beechwood from making solid contact aside from the back-to-back triples to lead off the game. If he keeps working on his game, he has the potential to develop into a pretty nice pitcher over the next few years.

I saw the one throw out and both teams were sleepy, but Beechwood looked like the better team today. They will have to play their absolute best and get some help to beat Ryle.

Seemed like this was Coach Myerhoff once again attempting to make things happen and try to steal a run or two! Unfortunately, Newport was awake for those both times.

I saw a play on the news from this game where a runner hurdled over the catcher's tag when the catcher was reaching back towards the runner.

What was the call on that play?

I saw the same play on the news (19), and according to the umps signal and the broadcaster's comment, the runner was out. However, it looked like the catcher didn't tag him. The runner's foot hit the catchers helmet, but the glove looked like it never touched him.

Somone please correct me if I am wrong but I don't think you are allowed to hurdle the catcher on a play at the plate.

Correct IF the player in standing in front of you or upright. This play was legal. I was curious to see how the umpire called it.
