One thing is for sure. It is not a 'hands down' decision. It is definitely a good race between 4 or 5 quality baseball players...

 

I would say it's between Maile and Farris for the 3A-4A schools, and Elliot should be a no doubter in the 1A-2A run.

in this day and age, IMO 6'3 or more.... and a big frame of a body. Catchers take a beating everyday, and when you consider that the better ones catch five to six games a week, it is tough on their body. Listen Corry is a player, one of the best in the area, and he is as close to a sure thing turning pro one day as there is, but with his speed, he isn't going to be playing catcher. Why would a college or pro coach not use his speed to their advantage. Boone needs a catcher, Corry is a top athletic, so he catchers, but he will not play that position on a everyday occasion at the next level.....if so, he will never reach his full potential.

 

As for someone who has seen the kid run... he can flat out cook on the bath paths and in the field. Being behind the plate doesn't fully play in to all of his cards but its still no bash on Farris. The kids an awesome catcher at any level. Having him cauight be in the past he calls a good smart game and does his job effectively behind the plate. As to where I think he could really blossom into a stud at the next level, I cant help but think he would be best in the outfield. But the kid is still a stud behind the plate. I havent seen any N. Ky baseball this year yet but will try to catch the district and regional ++ coverage once school lets out next week. However its absolutely no doubt that Farris can catch in HS and on the next level. The fact of the matter is he is better fit to play elsewhere because no one wants a catcher that can steal

bases and run down the ball in the gap. IMO, reading a lot of the information in the thread POY will be determined by who excels in the district, and regional action over the next few weeks. The true POY will distinguish himself here in one where or another.

Well i for one saw about a 3-1 ball in dirt ratio for Farris. It seemed like he was on his knees all night. Hard to block them all. Maile is a very good catcher, but i still don't see why you think he is so much better than Farris. They have the same arms, both have quick releases, and both are solid blockers. I would like to see Farris on a night where he didn't get beat to death though, and then make a decision.

Farris has gotten into a lot of bad habits by having such a short backstop behind him at Boone County. He reaches for balls and doesn't get his glove down low enough to stop them. Sure go ahead and say it was balls into the dirt, and you can't stop them all, but I sat behind the plate today as I usually do, and he had balls go between his legs because he didn't get his glove down low enough. If he is going to be catching in the next level (understand he is going to play at the next level but not as a catcher) he better impove. I got to see most of today's game, and none of the so called "POY Candidates" helped thier cause today defensively. Maile had past balls that allowed runners to advance. Farris had a bunch of past balls, and many of them allowed runners to score from third. Distant POY Candidate Mark Reed had a ground ball go through his legs that allowed a rally to continue.

 

Offensively, all of them had a decent game, but nothing spectacular. They all put the ball in play, Maile had an early RBI, but then got beaned (not intentionally), and got walked (I believe). Farris had a hit, got walked a couple times and hit into a fielders choice. Reed had a hit or two, and hit a bomb to the fence that Brandon "Willie Mays" Nutini caught as he ran into the fence. The thing that made Brandon's catch more luck than skill was that as he ran back toward the fence, he followed the ball with his eyes, then he actually took his eyes off the ball and was looking at the wall (thinking it was going over the fence) when the ball just happened to land in his glove as he went to run into the wall with his hands. He was as surprised as the rest of the crowd that the ball landed in his glove. Brandon wasn't doing to much "high stepping" as he was still licking his wounds from dropping a "can of corn" in the outfield earlier in the game that allowed a run to score.

 

Overall, a well pitched game by Krohman. Didn't have a great deal of support from his defense. A misjudged fly ball in the outfield really hurt. Past balls hurt him, and a couple bad throws, etc... He pitched well though.

 

Niehaus and Isler pitched well, but Isler has got to speed up his windup. Boone stole on him and was standing on second before Maile even received the ball. It was so bad that they were stealing third while down 5 or 6 runs in the last inning. There was no risk, so why not.

Who are you say to say that i don't get around enough? Do you know me? Am I not allowed to state my opinion on a MESSAGE BOARD? How does that have anything to do with needing to get out more? I'm not the only one in here who has said Cory Farris. Quit being a hater.

 

 

And I too stated my opinion . I think Farris is a great player ,Seeing him more last year than this though .I have only seen him play 4 times this year .When the voting comes out I do believe it will be close .As stated above in another post it could be between 4-5 kids .With so many players to get votes it could hurt one or the other .HAVE A NICE DAY !! :D
