02ram, I'm till learning about how awesome Mark Knopfler is. I bet a lot of people didn't know that he did the music for 'The Princess Bride'.

Sold alot of copies but didn't get the legandary status like I thought it would. Featured Eminem, Snoop, etc. Every song was good on this album. I don't think this album will ever get the credit it deserves.

I have to disagree with you. Most rap fans that I know of would list this among their favorites. Plus, it was a general mainstream success.

This is widely considered one of the greatest rap albums ever. In no way is it underrated or underappreciated.

You're right. But 2001 was pretty good as well, but nowhere near as important as "The Chronic."

The album is a classic concept album themed around love, loss and murder. Combining funk, soul, hard rock and indie rock, the album is sequenced perfectly, with a slow, grinding start that gives way to driving rockers in the middle and beautiful ballads toward the end. Really shows off front man Greg Dulli's singing and songwriting capabilities. Nonexistent promotional efforts by Elektra Records helped make sure this gem sold fewer than 100,000 copies.
