Coaching staffs that have stayed together the longest?

Featured Replies

With all good head coaches there is plethora of great assistants who have stayed with them, who is yours?

Belfry has a home grown staff with lots of experience working together.

Philip Haywood came to Belfry in 1984, and one of his assistant coaches, DC Steve Mickey was already on the Belfry staff with a few years experience.

Todd Cassell was a member of that 1984 team and he has been coaching as an assitant since about 1990.

James Rowe is an assistant coach who has been with them for at least 15+ years.

Anthony Tackett and Matt Varney both played under Coach Haywood and have been members of the staff for between 10 and 15 years.

I think everyone else on the staff are former players with 1-5 years experience.

^The middle school coaches are all Belfry grads who played under Coach Haywood, too.

I've heard Scott County Football made their annual turnover of about half of their staff this off season.....anyone got more info on who is in or out at on the SC Football Staff?

Breathitt Coach Mike Holcomb and John Paul Chapman has been together for awhile now. These two have a pretty good system in place.

Did Chapman coach @ Pikeville for a while?

Yeah Coach Chapman did coach there for a few years. He came back after about two seasons i think.

I think that Danville's staff has some experience being together too. I can only think of Jaggers leaving in some time now. Anyone got the breakdown of how many years each of their coaches have been there? Harp alone has been at DHS for 20 or 21 years now, right??

If you want continuity look at the West Carter staff, with several of the coaches having been there since the program got started in the mid to late 70's.

Playmakr, "whatsda syaoybeya?!" :jump:

Perry and Jaggers both joined up with Coach Harp in '97, they were all three on the same staff for 8 seasons, until Jaggers took the Mercer job. Perry and Harp, though are about to start their 11th season together, not counting the few years that Perry was an assistant under Harp at Anderson and Danville in the mid-late 80's, until Perry took the Garrard job in '90 ( i believe thats the year??) So, you're probably looking at somewhere around 15 years that those two (Harp and Perry) have been on the same staff.

Joe Washington was one of Joe Jaggers assistants from '77-'98 at both Ft. Knox and North Hardin (a couple years in the mid 90's, Washington took off, but rejoined), he's now the HC at North, since '99. Joe Dickerson (former Elizabethtown HC from '96-'98) was an assistant to Jaggers at Ft. Knox and North, as well, from '84-'96..calling the defense for many of those years.

LaRue Co.'s staff has been together a long time, three of current staff members have been inplace for about 10 years now (Armes HC, Sandige, Dawson and maybe even Kirkpatrick the whole time). Even before Armes took over, I believe all of those were on the LC staff in some form or fashion in the early 90's when Duncan and Brown were the HC's (I could be wrong, though, I know they were there when Brown was the HC), whether at the middle school or HS. So, you're looking at somewhere around 15 years or so, together for those guys, too.

Of course you have Pardue and Mason at Boyle Co, too, who I believe came in with Chuck Smith back in '92?!

It's amazing too look at the correlation between the time these coaching staffs have spent together and the success of their programs, isnt it??! Granted some have been more succesfull than others, in terms of State Championships, but all are nothing short of having the reputations of being very good programs across the state.

Rockcastle: Tony Saylor has been with Coach Larkey his whole time at Rock 21 years and Coach Larkey son; Chris has been there with him 17 years. Everyone on the Rock staff played under Coach Larkey.
