The defense "won" Louisville's spring game last night before a reported 28,000 fans as Brian Brohm was picked four times. Obviously, it's hard to make sense out of a spring scrimmage but it seemed that UL's OL needs some work. Coach Kragthorpe said that the running/passing ratio - approximately, 2:7 - was by design. The D probably knew this and reacted accordingly. Anyone else have any thoughts?

The defense had their ears pinned back all game coming off the edge, and there were some comunication issues between the interior line and the tackles, but that's not shocking considering Benson was out.

LABS, I didn't get the impression that Brohm looked hurt, I just think he could use a little weight lifting time and whatnot considering all the time he's sacrificed to PT. And besides, they were asking him to do quite a bit that's outside of his primary skill set.

Some quick impressions:

Brohm didn't look as bad as the 4 INTs suggest, because the plan was clearly to work on stuff and not show off. Lots of quick roll out passes without read progressions for Brian, while they obviously wanted Cantwell hanging in the pocket and going through his checks.

They limited the balls to Douglas and Urrutia. All spring, Douglas could do whatever he wanted to any corner, so I'm sure that Krag didn't feel the need to test that out.

They split Barnidge out to the slot A LOT. Something I'm looking forward to.

Sergio Spencer has been a big beneficiary of the coaching change. He's going to be a serious part of the rotation.

At the game I said I was unimpressed with the running game, all the plays were made on the strength of the ball carrier and not scheme or line play. But in the paper today Kragthorpe made it clear that he wasn't showing the run by design, he wants to keep it under wraps.

Kragthorpe cautioned against reading too much into that statement, however. He said he scaled the playbook way back to confound opposing teams' scouting efforts, especially in the running game. The Cardinals handed off to running backs only 22 times compared with 73 pass plays.

"The thing you have to understand is Steve Kragthorpe runs this show a little bit differently," he said. "This thing isn't orchestrated for the offense to have success like it has been in the past. I wanted the defense out there being competitive and the offense being competitive."

^Happy with 4 int's by your All- American???
So, if Brohm had thrown for 500 yards, 7 TDs, the question would be, what's wrong with the defense?

Brian Brohm IS an All-American, and I'm not really all that worried about him. The first interception was the only one that I thought was really on Brohm, as he zeroed in on Urrutia in a very uncharacteristic fashion. Two of the other INTs were tips off of the offensive players.

Not to mention, I'm going to go ahead and bring out my inner Allen Iverson, and ask you...

Are we talking about PRACTICE?

All spring, the offense torched the defense. Brohm and Douglas especially had their way with the other side of the ball. If in the scrimmage, the defense gained some confidence and stepped up to the plate (with a little help from the coaches leveling the playing field) I don't really see that as a bad thing.

Nope.

I mean, if he called REAL games like he called the scrimmage, then yes. But since he called a more balanced offense at Tulsa, and since he has some real studs here at Louisville, and since he said that last night was not meant to represent his actual offensive gameplanning, I'm just not that worried.

He's a hater...Don't sweat him...

Oh, I can't WAIT to see how many we pick off from ol' Woodson.

Actually, we may not pick any off... but he definitely won't be able to get too comfy in the backfield.
