STRIKE3 Posted April 19, 2007 Posted April 19, 2007 Season is well under way and I've seen teams, take 8 minutes of Infield and others, over 12-15 and more, if the Umpires would allow. Some have two Coaches, with one hitting to Infield and the other, to Outfield. I've seen two Baseballs, incorporated into being thrown around and Catchers, doing inside/outside Drills, while others are taking infield. Running on and off the field, varies also.....Any styles of Infield or pre-game warm-up routines, you like and describe.

Mr. No Name Posted April 19, 2007 Posted April 19, 2007 I've seen a couple of teams take infield without a baseball ... "Phantom" infield is always very fun.
westsider Posted April 19, 2007 Posted April 19, 2007 I don't really see the point of it, but to each their own ...
cvillecat Posted April 19, 2007 Posted April 19, 2007 I've seen a couple of teams take infield without a baseball ... When I played Legion baseball in 74 there was a team from Midland Michigan that always played in our annual 4th Of July tourney. They would warm up before each game without a baseball. They went through the same motions as if they were using one. It was quiet amusing and they had a darn good baseball team as well. Each player also had his own personal batting helmet that they wore in the field as well at the plate. Back then the earpiece was not a requirement.
crimedoc Posted April 20, 2007 Posted April 20, 2007 When I coached. I never used to take infield. If you dont have it by now, you probably arent going to get it by taking two ground balls.
stickymitts Posted April 20, 2007 Posted April 20, 2007 I don't really see the point of it, but to each their own ... Because baseball is more mental than physical. If you are mentally ready to play a game you are in great shape. It's actually a really good idea...

It's not about getting better. Would you not let your kids shoot layups before basketball or throw passes before a football game?

I remember that team as well, also remember the quality of teams that were in the Ashalnd 4th/July touney evey year. Cinnn. Midland, Reading, Twitty city (a team out of Nashville sponsored by Conway Twitty), Portsmouth (when B. Newman coached them) along with post 76. ALL were excellent baseball teams and that tourney was an outstanding week of baseball. AND................Yers butterfinger, I am old too. :thumb:
cvillecat Posted April 20, 2007 Posted April 20, 2007 cvillecat- your showing your age lol  I not only show it, I also feel it.

The Portsmouth teams coached by Newman and the Morehead team coached by D. Hardin were some of the best baseball teams I have watched. Hardin & Newman were great baseball coaches and had a deep passion for the game.

If I remember correctly (and I may not) Cinn. Midland and Twitty City were almost always in the finals or semi finals of the annual 4th of July tournament in Central Park. Those two along with Ashland 76 and Portsmouth always were right there. It may be just me but I don't think that the level of competetion/talent is even close to what it used to be in that tournament.
